Job description

Role Overview

The Family Service Worker provides tailored support and resources to families based on their individual needs while aiding recruitment efforts. This role fosters family self-sufficiency through goal setting and active family engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit families for designated Early Childhood Education (ECE) programs.
  • Follow up with families pending health or nutrition documentation necessary to commence services.
  • Monitor attendance and contact families to ensure consistent child participation as per program criteria.
  • Conduct comprehensive strength and needs assessments for designated families.
  • Set achievable goals supporting family independence.
  • Support parents in enhancing skills related to engagement and literacy-promoting activities.
  • Offer appropriate resources and referrals to families.
  • Facilitate communication between families and subject matter experts.
  • Collaborate with Site Supervisors and Teachers to organize and lead parent committee meetings.
  • Maintain detailed case notes, records, and prepare reports periodically.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of two years' experience in child and family assessment, home visiting, early intervention, parent education, family support, referral services, or similar fields.
  • Bachelor's degree in child development, early childhood education, psychology, social work, or related discipline from a four-year university.
  • Valid driver's license with required auto insurance or reliable transportation due to extensive travel requirements (over 50% of the time).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency is highly preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about Head Start and California Department of Education (CDE) standards.
  • Competent in handling confidential information, ensuring patient privacy aligned with PHI guidelines.
  • Familiarity with community resources to address client-specific needs.
  • Strong sensitivity toward cultural and socioeconomic factors impacting the service population.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills coupled with dependable attendance.
  • Proficient with Windows-based computer applications.

Physical and Work Environment

  • Physical activities include standing, walking, and sitting between one-third to two-thirds of work time.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for reaching and handling objects.
  • Minimal demands for bending, crouching, climbing, or heavy lifting (rarely exceeding 10 pounds).
  • The work environment involves moderate noise levels and occasional outdoor exposure.

Training and Compliance

  • Completion of New Hire Orientation, Sexual Harassment Prevention, Mandated Reporter, and Timekeeping & Attendance training required.

  • Salary range between $23.88 and $28.66 USD per hour, determined by relevant skills, education, and experience.
