Job description

This is a Temporary Full-Time role effective from the date of appointment until 29 January 2027, with the possibility for contract extension.

Act on behalf of clients by preparing cases, instructing counsel, and personally advocating in family law, domestic and family violence, child protection, and associated matters.
Provide duty lawyer services including delivering legal advice and information to clients and the general public.
Make referrals to other relevant services as necessary to address clients’ requirements.
Execute responsibilities primarily through self-management, under supervision and guidance from senior legal professionals when needed.
Support Legal Aid Queensland’s involvement in policy development, procedural improvements, law reform, and legal service delivery projects.
Maintain and nurture relationships with external stakeholders relevant to the role.
Participate in team planning and suggest enhancements to current work processes.

Possess experience and understanding in preparation, representation, and advocacy within family law, domestic and family violence, child protection, and related legal fields.
Familiarity with procedural aspects and ethical standards governing these areas of law.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with various stakeholders, including clients with complex needs, utilizing trauma-informed communication principles.
