Job description

About MI5

MI5 is dedicated to safeguarding the United Kingdom from severe threats, including terrorism and hostile state activities. Our role involves intelligence gathering, analysis, and working collaboratively with agencies like MI6 and GCHQ to disrupt threats. We also offer guidance on protective security to government, businesses, and other organizations to enhance their safety.

Role Overview

As a Facilities Officer, you will contribute significantly to maintaining an efficient and secure site environment. Working within a supportive team, you will provide broad logistical and facilities support to colleagues, visitors, and contractors, ensuring safe and effective operations on site.

Key Duties

  • Coordinate Goods-In operations and handle deliveries.
  • Prepare conference rooms and distribute office supplies.
  • Assist with site moves and carry out general porterage and facilities tasks.
  • Operate various equipment and vehicles, including utility vehicles, forklift trucks, and an accessible electric minibus after training.
  • Serve as a backup driver for the accessible electric minibus to support connectivity within the intelligence community.
  • Promote rigorous safety standards and respond proactively to unsafe conditions.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate holds a full UK driving license and is open to completing training on specialist vehicles and equipment operation. You should be safety-oriented, dependable, and committed to providing a high-quality service. Effective communication skills are vital for assisting a diverse range of people and collaborating with team members. Adaptability and a practical problem-solving mindset are essential for this dynamic role, which includes both indoor and outdoor physical tasks.

Training and Development

From the outset, you will receive comprehensive induction and ongoing guidance. Training encompasses driving, utility vehicle operation, security awareness, disability awareness, health and safety, and the use of site equipment, including forklift and minibus operation. Working alongside experienced officers, you will enhance your skills across goods handling and facilities services, with opportunities for professional growth and increased responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary of £30,535.
  • 25 days of annual leave, increasing to 30 days after five years’ service, plus 10.5 public and privilege holidays.
  • Employee recognition through performance schemes.
  • Dedicated development budget.
  • Interest-free season ticket loan.
  • Access to a robust pension plan.
  • Cycle-to-work program.
  • Facilities such as gym, restaurant, and on-site coffee bars at select locations.
  • Paid parental and adoption leave.

Working Conditions and Other Information

Flexible working hours are available to accommodate personal commitments, although remote working is not permitted due to role requirements. The position is based in Greater Manchester; candidates must reside within a commutable distance, as relocation expenses are not provided.

The role demands the highest security clearance (Developed Vetting), with mandatory abstention from recreational drug use during the application process. British citizenship or dual nationality is required. The recruitment process is thorough and merit-based, involving multiple stages such as situational judgment tests, interviews, and extensive vetting, which may take six to nine months.

Candidate expenses for travel to interviews or assessments may be reimbursed following policy conditions and submission of original receipts. Applications must be submitted from within the UK to ensure proper processing.
