Position Summary
The Executive Director of Operations is a senior leadership role focused on keeping the organization running smoothly, profitably, and in line with long-term business goals. This position sets operational direction, leads cross-functional teams, strengthens processes, and makes sure everyday execution supports the company’s wider strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the organization’s daily operations across departments and business units.
- Create, refine, and roll out operational policies, procedures, and standards that advance company objectives.
- Improve efficiency, productivity, and cost control by spotting and acting on operational improvement opportunities.
- Track KPIs and other operating metrics to confirm business targets are being met.
- Work with senior leadership to shape and deliver strategic initiatives.
- Handle operational budgeting, forecasting, and allocation of resources for stronger performance.
- Maintain adherence to internal policies, industry regulations, and quality benchmarks.
- Identify operational exposures and put mitigation plans in place to protect business continuity.
- Lead change efforts and ongoing process improvement programs.
- Coordinate teams across functions to ensure business activities are executed smoothly.
- Oversee workforce planning, team development, and performance management within operational groups.
- Assess and introduce technology tools that improve operational effectiveness.
- Develop and sustain productive relationships with clients, vendors, partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Prepare operational summaries and present performance insights to executive leadership and the board.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Management, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline. An MBA is preferred.
Applicants should bring 8 to 15 years of progressive experience in operations management, including senior leadership exposure. Experience leading large operational functions and coordinating cross-functional teams is essential.
Strong knowledge of business operations, process improvement, and organizational development is required, along with hands-on experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and performance management. The role also calls for excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving abilities, plus the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
