Job description
About the organisation
The Y in Australia is part of the worldwide YMCA network and operates as a social enterprise across more than 680 communities. With over 11,500 employees and more than 16 million program and facility visits in the last year, the organisation draws on 170+ years of community connection to help children and young people thrive safely with their families and communities.
Its work spans childcare, outside-school-hours care, youth development, disability services, access schools, career pathways and community recreation, with a strong focus on supporting young people who are marginalised, disadvantaged or at risk.
About the role
This position works closely with the National CEO of Y Australia in a trusted, hands-on capacity. Rather than staying in the background, you will be an integral part of the Office of the CEO, helping keep the function organised, responsive and effective.
The role combines executive assistance, office coordination, event and governance support, stakeholder engagement and project support. It also offers a high level of autonomy, giving you room to create and refine your own processes and make the position your own.
This opportunity suits someone who enjoys a fast-moving environment, stays a step ahead, and takes satisfaction in ensuring everything runs seamlessly.
Key duties
- Provide executive assistance by preparing, editing and reviewing correspondence, managing the CEO’s diary and arranging travel.
- Oversee office operations by maintaining smooth day-to-day functioning, ensuring supplies and resources are available, and resolving issues proactively.
- Support governance meetings and major events, including Presidents Forums, CEO events and the AGM, by coordinating logistics and providing secretariat assistance.
- Build and maintain effective relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders to support strong outcomes.
- Assist the CEO with local, national and global projects from initiation through to completion.
About you
You are organised, proactive and calm under pressure, with strong judgement and a keen eye for detail. You can manage competing priorities, work independently, and bring a thoughtful, collaborative approach to everything you do.
The organisation would like to see experience in supporting senior executives, particularly C-suite leaders, along with excellent written and verbal communication, strong stakeholder management skills, advanced Microsoft Office capability and the ability to work in an adaptable, emotionally intelligent way.
Compensation and benefits
The role offers a salary of $110,000 plus superannuation. It is a full-time role at 1.0 FTE, based in Essendon Fields, Victoria, with two work-from-home days each week.
Additional benefits include gifted leave during the end-of-year shutdown, access to an Employee Assistance Program, and a workplace culture that is described as supportive, innovative, inclusive and invested in learning and growth.
Application process
Applicants are asked to review the full position description and submit a CV together with a cover letter that addresses the selection criteria by 30 June 2026. Applications are sought from people who are ready to contribute energy, organisation and strong people skills in a role where they will be trusted and included as part of the team.
Equal opportunity and safeguarding
The employer welcomes applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, and LGBTQIA+ communities.
Safeguarding screening is a required part of the recruitment process. This includes appropriate checks such as Police Checks and a Working with Children Check to ensure the right people are placed in roles involving children and young people.
