About the Role and Organization
The Centre for Civic Governance, an independent think tank dedicated to promoting progressive leadership for equitable and inclusive communities throughout Canada, is seeking a full-time Events, Engagement, and Communications Officer. The role is hybrid, requiring a 37.5-hour workweek, with occasional evening and weekend commitments. The position is based in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland region and entails travel within Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and potentially other areas.
Term and Compensation: This is a one-year contract with a potential for extension, offering an annual salary of $76,210.93 plus benefits.
Main Responsibilities
- Plan and execute both digital and physical civic governance events, including the flagship civic governance forum which brings together municipal officials, union leaders, and civil society experts from across British Columbia and Canada.
- Coordinate other events such as webinars, networking receptions at UBCM, peer networking groups, and skills training sessions.
- Support additional CCG initiatives like the Jobs for Today project focusing on a worker-centered low-carbon economy.
- Develop, manage, and implement a comprehensive digital communication strategy to broaden the organization's reach, especially towards local elected officials, Indigenous communities, and partners.
- Create compelling content for websites, social media, newsletters, and other channels, translating complex research into accessible formats.
- Assist with media outreach, advocacy campaigns, and fundraising efforts.
- Contribute to strategic and operational planning and assist with budgeting for events and programs.
- Support research and policy brief development, working group activities, and maintain collaborative relationships with partners such as labor leaders, environmental groups, and Indigenous representatives.
- Represent CCG at relevant events and conferences through tabling and engagement.
- Facilitate virtual conversation series as needed.
- Support ongoing project, program, and initiative development along with ad hoc duties.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum three years in roles such as Communications Coordinator, Engagement Specialist, Program Manager, or Event Planner.
- Experience collaborating with local governments, labor movements, environmental organizations, or Indigenous groups.
- Strong organizational and event management skills with ability to prioritize effectively.
- Excellent written communication, research, and teamwork abilities.
- Capacity to operate independently with minimal supervision.
- Prior experience in volunteer coordination.
