About the Role
Join a leading global oil and gas company as an Estimator within their Capital Projects team based in Perth. This role involves working on an extensive portfolio of major capital projects, providing consistent, high-quality cost estimates, assurance, and project controls support through all project stages.
As an Estimator, you will deliver expert cost estimating services collaborating with project teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders. Responsibilities include creating and assuring project cost estimates, supporting risk assessments, and ensuring alignment with project management and cost engineering frameworks.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop cost estimates for all phases and classes of capital projects.
- Create and update detailed Basis of Estimate documentation.
- Formulate estimate plans for various capital project stages.
- Coordinate, review, and critically assess contractor and owner cost estimates, assumptions, unit rates, and resource needs.
- Support Integrated Cost and Schedule Assurance (ICSA) activities and project assurance reviews.
- Engage in cost and schedule risk assessments including probabilistic analysis and contingency evaluations.
- Maintain project cost risk models and conduct contract cost evaluations, change analyses, and cost trending.
- Manage estimate change logs incorporating project risks, vulnerabilities, and opportunities.
- Contribute to development of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS).
- Ensure estimates are synchronized with schedules, resource plans, and funding requirements.
- Support project Management of Change processes and conduct project cost benchmarking using lessons learned.
- Assist business planning, budgeting cycles, monthly expenditure reporting, and funding requests.
- Participate in Joint Venture Work Program and Budget activities as needed.
- Maintain estimating databases with cost data, unit rates, productivity factors, and metrics.
- Produce high-quality estimating, budgeting, and funding documentation.
- Identify opportunities to enhance estimating processes, systems, methodologies, and digital tools.
- Utilize emerging technologies such as AI-enabled tools to drive continuous improvement in cost engineering.
- Work independently with project teams and stakeholders to resolve cost-related issues effectively.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in cost estimating for major capital projects in the oil and gas sector, both onshore and offshore.
- Knowledge supporting upstream, subsea, wells, or downstream facilities projects.
- Strong expertise in cost estimating, management, and analysis techniques.
- Experience with probabilistic cost and schedule risk analysis, including contingency planning.
- Familiarity with established project development and project controls processes for large capital projects.
- Previous involvement in projects ranging from USD $1 billion to $10 billion is highly valued.
- Understanding of the interrelationship between estimating, scheduling, budgeting, and cost control functions.
- Capability to rigorously review and challenge contractor estimates and assumptions.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to operate efficiently within complex matrix organizations.
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a track record of delivering results in major capital project environments.
- Continuous improvement focus and willingness to question and refine existing processes.
