About the Role
Craig-Hallum Capital Group is seeking a qualified Equity Research Associate to join our Minneapolis team, focusing on the healthcare sector. This role involves working closely with the Senior Research Analyst throughout the research lifecycle including financial model creation and updates, performing detailed financial analysis, conducting due diligence, authoring investment-relevant research reports, designing and administering industry surveys, and other forms of industry and competitive evaluation. The associate will gain extensive exposure to company management, investor events, and the investment recommendation process. A high level of motivation, a passion for stocks, and eagerness to learn about new industries and companies in this sector are essential. Attention to detail and a drive to excel are critical for success.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and update financial models, conduct competitive and market research, and analyze companies.
- Develop proficiency in interpreting financial statements and constructing income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Build financial models to forecast growth and profitability for publicly traded equities, involving analysis of historical and projected financial data, profitability metrics, margins, and ratios.
- Conduct valuation assessments using discounted cash flow, dividend discount models, and other valuation methods including earnings, sales, cash flow, and tangible book value.
- Assist the Senior Analyst by compiling and assessing all pertinent research and information related to equity investment ideas, market conditions, competitors, customers, suppliers, and other factors influencing company financial outcomes.
- Source relevant information from company filings, management meetings, financial news, and government and industry data.
- Ensure accuracy and maintenance of financial models, analytical data, and records.
- Summarize earnings conference calls to support evaluation of recent company performance.
- Distribute important information to internal teams as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related fields such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Public Health, Health Economics, or Healthcare Administration.
- Strong academic background with experience and proficiency in financial and ratio analysis.
- Excellent quantitative and analytical capabilities.
- Advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of two years of relevant investment or finance industry experience, or experience in healthcare sectors including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, or healthcare services.
- Familiarity with financial tools such as Factset and Bloomberg.
- Demonstrated understanding of financial markets and healthcare sector dynamics.
- Ability to collect and analyze extensive datasets from clinical literature, regulatory submissions, claims data, web research, and other sources.
- Knowledge of FDA regulatory processes, clinical trial designs, healthcare reimbursement, and healthcare policies is a significant advantage.
- Interest or background specifically within the healthcare sector.
- FINRA licensing is desirable.
