Job description
About Veterinary Associates Equine
Located in Karaka, South Auckland with satellite clinics in Kumeu and Warkworth, Veterinary Associates Equine is a comprehensive ambulatory and referral equine practice. Our team comprises two board-certified surgeons, a board-certified internist, and multiple ambulatory veterinarians, offering extensive expertise and backup support. We serve a diverse equine clientele including sport horses, Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses, along with pleasure horses, providing a wide-ranging professional experience.
Internship Program Overview
We provide several staggered one-year internship positions typically beginning in January and July each year. On occasion, six-month internships may also be available for suitable candidates. Interns are housed primarily at our Karaka facility and rotate through medicine, surgery, and ambulatory departments. Responsibilities encompass shared on-call duties such as assisting with hospital emergencies and inpatient care. With clinical skill advancement, interns assume primary ambulatory emergency duties alongside experienced vets on a rotating basis.
Our internship emphasizes strong mentorship, aiming to equip participants with comprehensive clinical skills for seamless transition into private practice or residency programs on completion. Our custom-built hospital is outfitted with cutting-edge technology including a surgical suite, dynamic endoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasonography, dentistry equipment, IRAP, PRP, stem cell culture capabilities, and an in-house diagnostic lab.
Externship Program Details
Externships offer students practical exposure to clinical practice year-round at our facilities in Karaka and Kumeu. We welcome enthusiastic, diligent students eager to contribute to daily operations. Secondary school students completing mandatory vet practice hours before vet school admission are also encouraged to apply.
