Role overview
This full-time Environmentalist I position is based in the Environmental Services department at 11906 Navicent Health Medical Center in Macon, Georgia. The role is onsite, scheduled for 40 hours per week, with a 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM shift. The pay rate falls within $18.85 to $28.30 per hour, and benefits are available.
What you will do
- Help create a strong first impression by keeping assigned patient units and areas clean, orderly, and well maintained each day.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as high dusting, spot mopping corridors, cleaning baseboards and handrails, and keeping stainless-steel surfaces polished.
- Clean patient rooms on a daily basis, including removing liners, dusting, wet mopping, disinfecting surfaces, cleaning restrooms, and wiping furniture.
- Turn over discharged patient rooms quickly by fully cleaning, disinfecting, making the bed, replenishing supplies, and emptying sharps containers when needed.
- Respond promptly to dirty beds in clinical areas and use bed tracking tools to help prepare beds for the next patient.
- Restock supplies across patient units and public areas while using materials carefully and responsibly.
- Complete the expected morning cleaning duties in clinical spaces, including common areas such as restrooms, elevator lobbies, nurses’ stations, break rooms, and carpets.
- Follow infection control instructions and safe cleaning procedures when working in isolation rooms.
- Maintain ancillary areas such as trash rooms, dirty utility rooms, medication rooms, supply closets, and offices by dust mopping, wet mopping, emptying trash, and cleaning surfaces.
- Participate in daily shift huddles, bi-monthly supervisory meetings, and monthly department meetings.
- Report safety concerns, repair needs, and floors requiring additional attention to the appropriate supervisor or facilities team.
- Provide professional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff, while meeting departmental and administrative expectations.
- Be prepared to work in other hospital areas as directed based on departmental needs.
- Use approved chemicals, germicides, equipment, schedules, and procedures to maintain required cleanliness standards.
Requirements
- No previous experience is required.
- No formal education is required.
- No license, registration, or certification is needed for this role.
- Ability to see at near and far distances.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person and by phone or radio.
- Capacity to assist with transfers and move supplies, patients, residents, or equipment using proper body mechanics.
- Functional range of motion in the neck, back, and upper and lower limbs, with grip strength suited to the job classification.
- Ability to reach overhead and forward, bend, squat, kneel, and move quickly between positions.
- Ability to lift 25 to 60 lbs and carry 25 to 50 lbs, based on job class evaluation.
- Comfort working in noisy, busy, and unpleasant-odor environments.
- Self-directed work style with the ability to stay calm in stressful situations.
- Ability to respond to several tasks or situations at the same time and stay organized and efficient.
- Must be able to pass the cardiac recovery test if the job class is identified as POPE C.
