Role Overview
This full-time Environmentalist I position is based in the Environmental Services department at 11906 Navicent Health Medical Center in Macon, Georgia. The schedule runs from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, totaling 40 hours per week. The role is responsible for maintaining assigned patient, clinical, and public areas to required cleanliness standards using approved cleaning chemicals, germicides, and equipment, while following departmental procedures and schedules.
Key Duties
- Create a strong first impression in patient care areas by completing high dusting, spot mopping corridors, cleaning baseboards and handrails, polishing stainless steel, and escalating issues needing follow-up to a supervisor.
- Carry out daily room cleaning tasks in assigned areas, including replacing liner bags, dusting and wet mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, wiping furniture, and disinfecting surfaces.
- Turn over discharged patient rooms promptly by thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all surfaces, making the bed, restocking paper and soap products, clearing sharps containers when full, and ensuring required patient materials are present.
- Respond quickly to dirty beds in clinical areas and use bed-tracking software effectively to help prepare beds for new patients.
- Restock supplies in patient units and public areas as needed while using materials carefully and responsibly.
- Complete morning cleaning routines for common spaces in clinical settings, including public restrooms, elevator lobbies, nurses’ stations, break rooms, and carpeted areas.
- Use required safety procedures when cleaning isolation rooms as directed by Infection Control.
- Maintain ancillary spaces such as trash rooms, dirty utility areas, medication rooms, and supply closets by dust mopping, wet mopping, emptying trash, and cleaning surfaces.
- Keep office areas clean by dusting and wiping furniture when papers and personal items are cleared away.
- Attend daily shift huddles, twice-monthly supervisor meetings, and monthly department meetings to stay aligned with hospital and department updates.
- Report unsafe conditions, needed repairs, and flooring issues to the appropriate supervisor or Facilities Management team.
- Provide courteous, professional service to patients, visitors, and staff, with awareness of how interactions affect patient satisfaction measures.
- Be prepared to work in other parts of the hospital when directed based on department and health system needs.
Requirements
- No prior experience is necessary.
- No formal education is required.
- No license, registration, or certification is required for this role.
- Ability to see clearly at near and far distances.
- Strong verbal communication skills for in-person, phone, or radio communication.
- Capability to assist with transfers and move supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using proper body mechanics.
- Functional motion in the neck, back, arms, and legs, with grip strength in the 60-80 pound range as required by the job class evaluation.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach overhead and forward, and change positions quickly.
- Capacity to lift 25-60 pounds and carry 25-50 pounds, depending on job class evaluation.
- Comfort working in loud, busy, and unpleasant-odor environments.
- Ability to stay self-directed, remain calm under pressure, handle multiple situations at once, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- If the job class falls under POPE C, the cardiac recovery test must be passed.
- This role may require the use of approved cleaning chemicals, germicides, and equipment.

Compensation and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.85 to $28.30 per hour. The role is benefits-eligible.
