Role overview
Northwood is hiring a full-time Environmental Services Worker for its Bedford location. Reporting to the Supervisor/Manager, Support Services, this role focuses on keeping the site clean, orderly, and in good repair while supporting a safe and healthy environment for staff, clients, residents, tenants, and volunteers.
What the role involves
The position contributes to day-to-day environmental services operations and helps uphold safety standards across the Northwood community. The successful candidate will also take part in safety training and work cooperatively with others to maintain a safe, healthy, and well-kept facility.
Qualifications and experience
- Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent level of education is required.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in housekeeping within a long-term care or acute care setting is required.
- Strong reading, writing, comprehension, and instruction-following skills are necessary.
- The role requires regular ability to lift, pull, push, and move heavy equipment and furniture.
- Good teamwork skills are needed for working effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and residents.
- The candidate must be willing and able to work all shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and on-call assignments.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision is essential.
- WHMIS training would be an advantage.
- Consistent and reliable attendance is required.
Schedule and terms
This is a permanent, full-time position with 80 hours biweekly. The regular shift pattern is 8-hour evening shifts from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The role is effective July 17, 2026. Compensation and benefits are provided according to the NSGEU Collective Agreement.
