Job description

Overview

This role is for an experienced Environmental Consultant/Scientist who will support the successful delivery of contaminated land remediation work, with particular focus on projects involving oil contamination affecting land, water, and buildings. The position combines office-based and field-based work, and involves travel across Ireland.

The employer is seeking someone who is self-driven, inquisitive, and keen to keep developing professionally. A structured personal development programme is available to support continuous learning.

Location and working arrangement

This is a hybrid position based in Co. Wicklow or Co. Cork, with travel to sites around Ireland required. A company vehicle is provided because the role includes regular site visits.

Key responsibilities

  • Plan, scope, coordinate, and carry out site investigations and remediation programmes.
  • Oversee field teams involved in sampling, monitoring, and response activities.
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation, including remediation assessments and delivery plans.
  • Classify soil waste and interpret data to inform environmental decisions.
  • Work with clients, regulators, and other stakeholders as required for each project.
  • Lead field operations such as soil and groundwater testing, air quality monitoring, and remediation measures.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior colleagues.
  • Work in close partnership with the Project Management team to support successful project delivery.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate will bring at least 2 years of experience in contaminated land work, along with practical knowledge of oil contamination and remediation approaches. A strong scientific foundation and good analytical ability are important, as is comfort working across both office and field settings. A valid driver’s licence is mandatory.

This opportunity will suit a collaborative professional with strong communication skills, leadership potential, and a willingness to contribute as part of a team.
