Job description
Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Environmental Health Safety Specialist to spearhead the development and management of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives within our plant operations. This position involves ensuring compliance with environmental laws and company policies, managing waste and pollution controls, performing risk assessments, and leading continuous improvements aligned with strategic objectives.
Key Duties
- Create, implement, and continuously enhance EHS programs, systems, and procedures.
- Drive environmental compliance efforts to meet local regulatory standards and company requirements.
- Formulate annual work plans, set departmental goals and KPIs, and track progress relative to targets.
- Oversee environmental operational needs during all phases: pre-operational, operational, and post-operational.
- Manage resource allocation to optimize operational capacity, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Lead audits, inspections, monitoring activities, and compliance assessments related to environmental standards.
- Detect and mitigate environmental hazards through preventive and corrective measures.
- Supervise waste, industrial wastewater treatment, air quality monitoring, pollution control, and sustainability programs.
- Develop environmental standards, specifications, technical procedures, and operational guidelines.
- Provide technical advice and engineering solutions for EHS challenges.
- Collaborate with plant operations, engineering teams, contractors, suppliers, and headquarters to maintain environmental compliance.
- Conduct training and raise awareness about environmental practices among plant staff.
- Evaluate and approve environmental impacts of new machinery, projects, and installations.
- Keep abreast of changes in environmental legislation to ensure organizational adherence.
- Assist in incident investigations including root cause analysis and corrective actions execution.
- Oversee environmental KPI tracking, reporting, documentation, and promote continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to strategic planning and EHS program development across multiple sites.
- Support Saudization efforts, employee involvement, occupational safety programs, and compliance monitoring.
- Act as the environmental technical consultant for management, employees, contractors, and external partners.
- Assume safety section duties as needed, especially if NEBOSH qualified.
Qualifications and Expertise
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Profound knowledge of Environmental Management Systems (EMS), ISO 14001, OSHA, and NEBOSH standards.
- Work experience in industrial plants, manufacturing, food production, or heavy industry sectors.
- Expertise in waste management, industrial wastewater treatment, environmental monitoring, and sustainability practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with SAP preferred.
