Role Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-focused Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to contribute to our high-risk, dynamic industrial environment. Reporting to both the Safety Manager and Environmental Manager, this role will take stewardship of essential EHS operations such as corrective action tracking, safety inspections, Safety Data Sheet management, and coordinating workers’ compensation activities. The candidate must be proactive, well-organized, and ready to be a visible, hands-on advocate for enhancing safety culture in a 24/7 precious-metal refining and chemical production setting. The EHS Specialist supports implementing, executing, and continuously improving EHS initiatives to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, while embedding safety and environmental stewardship into the company's ethos.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with deployment and ongoing enhancement of EHS programs ensuring adherence to OSHA, EPA, and relevant regulations.
• Help design and deliver EHS training for personnel across all shifts.
• Maintain, manage, and submit necessary environmental and safety records, reports, permits, and licenses.
• Oversee updates and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets; assist with chemical approval workflows.
• Act as a company representative during regulatory agency interactions when required.
• Collect data for environmental reporting including air emissions inventories.
• Support waste management, chemical handling, and environmental compliance efforts.
• Lead daily safety duties such as tracking near misses and Opportunities for Improvement (OFI), ensuring corrective actions are closed.
• Conduct regular safety observations on all shifts to detect hazards and provide coaching.
• Ensure emergency safety equipment inspections (eyewash stations, showers, fire extinguishers) are performed timely and accurately.
• Promote safe work practices while emphasizing operational accountability for safety execution.
• Maintain a strong presence on the production floor to foster trust and credibility with employees.
• Coordinate workers’ compensation documentation and communication with HR and supervisors.
• Support processes for injury response, reporting, and return-to-work programs.
• Manage the corrective action process, ensuring all identified actions from incidents, audits, and inspections are assigned and completed promptly.
• Facilitate weekly corrective action reviews with supervisors and management.
• Lead problem-solving discussions and empower operational teams to implement solutions.
• Identify trends and escalate recurring safety or environmental issues to promote continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• 0 to 3 years experience preferably in EHS, manufacturing, laboratory, or industrial environments.
• Strong internship experience is highly regarded.
• Basic knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations; practical experience is beneficial but not required.
• Familiarity or academic exposure to hazardous materials, waste management, industrial safety, ergonomics, occupational injuries, and environmental compliance.
• Enthusiasm for supporting regulatory compliance, risk management, audits, and employee safety training programs.
• Exposure to ISO management systems via work, internships, or education is a plus.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain post-hire.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and documentation.
• Self-driven, well-organized, and motivated to learn quickly within a fast-moving, 24/7 manufacturing setting.
• Comfortable using computers and common software applications; proficiency in Microsoft Office is advantageous.

Work Environment

The position frequently requires standing, walking, manual handling, and reaching. Activities involve sitting and lifting up to 30 pounds intermittently, with or without assistance, throughout the day.
