About the Role
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will contribute to protecting community wellbeing by helping ensure compliance with environmental health, food safety and public health laws. The position is broad in scope and includes inspection work, investigations, education, and regulatory action. You will also collaborate with Council teams, government bodies and regional partners.
The role is advertised as full-time, but Council is open to part-time, job share and other flexible options where business needs can still be met.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections, investigations and compliance work relating to food businesses, registered premises, onsite wastewater systems and other environmental health matters.
- Handle public health concerns such as infectious disease matters, environmental nuisances, pest management and issues covered by tobacco and vaping laws.
- Offer practical advice to residents, businesses and Council, and help deliver health promotion and municipal public health planning activities.
- Prepare reports, ensure legislative compliance, represent Council in legal matters when needed, and support regional environmental health services and emergency management activities.
About You
To succeed in this position, you should be a proactive environmental health professional who can balance enforcement with community education and customer service. The Council is looking for someone who works well independently, yet also contributes positively in a team setting.
