Colden is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to support consulting work and help advance safer working conditions.

Role Summary

This is a full-time position for a candidate with 0 to 4 years of experience in workplace health and safety. The role is hybrid and may involve working from Colden offices, client locations, or from home depending on project needs and schedules. The position is associated with Colden's Manchester office, located in the restored Waumbec Mill with views of the Merrimack River and an on-site café.

The selected candidate will collaborate with CIHs, CSPs, senior scientists, and other technical and regulatory professionals to support industrial hygiene, safety, and broader environmental health and safety projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform industrial hygiene surveys to identify chemical, physical, and biological risks, including personal breathing-zone sampling and noise monitoring.
• Take part in indoor environmental quality investigations and related surveys.
• Carry out safety and health reviews, inspections, and audits across a range of client environments such as manufacturing facilities, labs, universities, hospitals, museums, media and entertainment productions, offices, and other workplaces.
• Draft clear reports that summarize site observations and findings.
• Research occupational and environmental health topics and accurately cite relevant standards such as OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and ISO.
• Create or revise health and safety procedures and training materials.
• Complete performance checks on local exhaust ventilation systems and other control measures.
• Assist with internal industrial hygiene monitoring activities and maintain safety equipment inventory and upkeep.
• Handle additional client-project work and support internal technical procedures and guidelines as needed.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a bachelor's degree, preferably in occupational health and safety, environmental health, or public health with an industrial hygiene or safety concentration. A science or engineering degree with relevant experience is also acceptable.

Applicants should have 0 to 4 years of experience in health and safety roles, along with familiarity with OSHA requirements and industrial hygiene exposure-monitoring methods. The role calls for someone who is self-driven, dependable, detail-focused, and able to manage work independently with support when needed. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with solid interpersonal abilities, are important.

Because the position includes travel, candidates must be willing and able to travel as project needs change. Travel may include local New England client sites as well as other locations within the United States.
