About ERG and Position Overview

ERG is a multidisciplinary research and consulting firm serving federal, state, and commercial clients with expertise spanning engineering, science, economics, public health, IT, and communications. ERG is seeking motivated entry-level engineers, scientists, chemists, and technicians to support research projects for the U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of new experimental processes under senior guidance
  • Support creation of technical reports, data analysis, and project documentation
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair laboratory and field apparatus
  • Implement technical projects as directed by senior personnel
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to craft innovative engineering or scientific solutions
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory and field safety policies and protocols
  • Contribute to data collection, testing, and result compilation for ongoing projects
  • Help prepare project plans, schedules, and necessary materials
  • Present findings and progress updates under supervision to leadership, clients, or at conferences
  • Gain experience in project management, design, and problem-solving alongside senior staff

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Environmental Science, or related disciplines
  • Equivalent relevant experience may substitute for degree requirements
  • Strong analytical, mechanical aptitude, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Interest and ability in scientific and technical work, including mechanical equipment and air quality topics
  • Hands-on laboratory, technical, or engineering project experience from academic or professional settings
  • Preferably experience in mechanical tasks, research labs, or field science
  • Familiarity with EPA source test methods, air quality monitoring, or emissions equipment advantageous
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally for field projects
  • Ability to clear background checks and drug screenings
  • Commercial Driver’s License preferred or comparable hauling experience
