Role Summary
The Enterprise Banker is responsible for improving business performance with both new and existing customers. A key part of the role is increasing share of wallet, strengthening customer relationships, and referring clients to the Branch Manager whenever specialist support is required.
Sales and Business Banking Support
- Reach out to prospective customers to open enterprise banking accounts while following the bank’s recruitment rules and procedures.
- Take part in targeted product drives by clearly presenting the features and value of the products to customers.
- Set, pursue, and exceed defined targets for sales campaigns.
- Improve the profitability of the portfolio by spotting opportunities in both new and existing customers, including cross-sell and promotion opportunities.
- Select the most suitable products and solutions for customer needs and be able to offer them quickly, whether responding to a request or proactively engaging the customer.
- Build customer interest through in-branch meetings, client visits, and telephone outreach, including follow-up on leads from colleagues.
- Prepare and submit client credit applications to the commercial credit team in line with Absa Africa SME lending guidelines, taking ownership of the lending outcome and exploring alternatives where needed.
- Hold customer meetings with clear objectives, expected outcomes, and a solid action plan.
- Track personal sales results for reporting and management information.
- Work closely with branch colleagues so that non-sales staff refer customers who need product or service support.
- Complete account opening forms with customers and submit them to the Branch Manager for review before forwarding them to operations.
- When offering loans, complete financial analysis and review statements for customer accounts; if a customer does not qualify, explain the decision verbally or in writing as needed and report refusals to the Branch Manager daily.
- Call customers after account opening, prepare welcome pack letters, and ensure these are sent out.
Customer Service
- Take responsibility for customer questions and complaints related to account opening, loans, and card applications, ensuring prompt resolution.
- Escalate unresolved issues to the Prestige Branch Manager without delay.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Operations and the KYC Helpdesk to speed up resolution of escalated matters.
- Guide customers to the correct service channel, such as cashiers, drop boxes, or ATMs, based on their needs.
- Notify customers when cheque books, cards, or other account items are ready, and follow up if they are not collected in time.
- Inform customers when loans are approved and encourage them to draw down the funds.
- Support queue management during busy periods by handling quick questions and directing customers to the right counter.
- Replenish branch marketing materials such as pamphlets and forms, and alert the Branch Manager when stock is low.
Branch Support
- Step in to advise Personal Banking customers on business matters when the Personal Banker is unavailable.
- Work with the Branch Manager or BOM to open and close cashier tills at the start and end of the day.
- Authorize cashier transactions that are above teller limits when required.
- Serve as custodian of branch cash by monitoring teller cash levels, replenishing cashiers or returning excess cash, and arranging cash replenishment from the external provider within daily limits.
Operational Excellence and Compliance
- Ensure every new account application, loan document, Barclaycard application, and mandate change is accurate and complete.
- Take personal responsibility for the quality and correctness of documents prepared and submitted.
- Maintain strong procedural discipline in all tasks to support a clean audit outcome.
- Follow the full retail account opening process so that new accounts are authorized and KYC compliant.
- Escalate KYC issues or delays that go beyond service timelines to the Branch Manager.
- Comply with operational risk requirements, including KYC and anti-money laundering rules.
- On some occasions, support the Branch Manager with opening and closing cashier tills.
- Carry out snap checks as assigned by the Branch Manager.
- Perform all duties in line with regulatory requirements, the enterprise-wide risk management framework, and internal policies and standards, while understanding and managing risks and incidents relevant to the role.
Additional Duties
Any other tasks may be assigned by the bank from time to time.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, Sales and Trading, or another related discipline is preferred.
- Postgraduate study or professional certification in a related area is an added advantage.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role and environment is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
The ideal candidate should understand business banking delivery, retail banking basics, bank products and services, sales processes, procedure manuals, relevant legislation such as KYC and anti-money laundering rules, and internal departments, systems, procedures, risk, and control requirements.
Core Skills
Strong planning and organization, effective verbal and written communication, questioning ability, numerical and analytical strength, networking, persuasive selling, presentation, and active listening are essential.

Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC): Business, Commerce and Management Studies is required.
