About the Role

As an Engineering Geologist at Level 5 focusing on transport and water sectors in Auckland, you will contribute significantly to understanding subterranean conditions integral to major infrastructure projects in Auckland and across New Zealand. Your responsibilities will cover the full project lifespan, starting from preliminary investigations and geological assessments to providing practical ground advice during project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee site investigations comprising drilling, cone penetration tests, geophysical surveys, test pits, and geological mapping.
  • Coordinate field operations including contractor management and collection of factual ground data.
  • Develop detailed engineering geological models through interpretation of complex ground conditions.
  • Collaborate with Technical Directors and senior specialists to evaluate and mitigate ground-related risks.
  • Engage constructively with clients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project alignment and success.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and support geotechnical assessments.
  • Assist in construction monitoring and design-related activities.
  • Mentor junior staff and ensure adherence to safety standards in project delivery.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A degree in Geology or Engineering Geology.
  • Approximately 4 to 7 years of experience in engineering geology consulting, with at least 3 years specifically in Auckland.
  • Proficient in geomorphic mapping and geological logging.
  • Experience utilizing GIS software, LeapFrog, Rocscience, gINT/OpenGround, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong abilities in geological interpretation and technical report writing.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Chartered status or actively pursuing chartership is advantageous.
  • Possession of a full New Zealand driver’s licence and a strong health, safety, and environmental awareness.
