Job Objective
The Engineer - Finishing (QA Blade) role is centered on inspecting the finishing phase of wind turbine blade production, ensuring surface integrity, dimensional precision, and balance. This role involves tracking finishing parameters, detecting and addressing defects, supporting process enhancements, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. The position coordinates with finishing teams to provide training and technical assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise finishing parameters including sanding depth, coating application, and curing conditions to maintain quality benchmarks.
- Modify finishing processes to rectify surface flaws and achieve desired blade specifications.
- Identify surface defects like roughness, cracks, and paint irregularities and initiate corrective measures such as re-sanding and repainting.
- Lead initiatives aimed at reducing finishing defects.
- Maintain thorough documentation of inspections, defect logs, and corrective actions.
- Generate comprehensive inspection reports detailing finishing quality for each blade.
- Offer input on finishing process performance to enhance defect reduction and operational efficiency.
- Engage in trials for new finishing materials and methods, assessing their impact on surface quality.
- Ensure all finishing activities comply with standards like ISO 9001 and internal blade criteria.
- Keep up to date with cutting-edge finishing techniques and integrate best practices into inspections.
- Collaborate closely with finishing operators to clearly communicate and consistently apply quality standards.
- Assist in training finishing staff on quality inspection methods and standards adherence.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols including PPE usage and safe equipment handling during inspections.
- Ensure finishing operations follow established SOPs and quality guidelines.
Key Stakeholders
- Internal: Leads and inspectors of finishing, moulding, tooling, business excellence, blade production, process, and engineering teams.
- External: Third-party auditors, inspectors, customers, and calibration laboratories.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science.
- Over 6 years of experience in quality assurance focusing on finishing processes in blade or composite manufacturing.
- Thorough knowledge of finishing inspection techniques, surface quality standards, and defect corrective actions.
