About the Role
We are hiring an experienced Energy Storage Project Development Manager to join a leading renewable energy developer in Hesse, Germany, focused on utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This full-time, on-site position involves managing the entire project development cycle, from early origination to achieving Ready-to-Build (RTB) status. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with technical teams, local partners, grid operators, regulatory authorities, and landowners to advance projects through permitting, grid connections, stakeholder relations, and commercial development.
This is a prime opportunity to contribute to one of the fastest expanding segments of renewable energy, providing strategic support to the development of energy storage infrastructure essential for the energy transition within the German market.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct the development of large-scale BESS projects until they reach RTB readiness.
- Manage partnerships and collaborations with local co-development partners throughout project stages.
- Coordinate operations with grid operators, local authorities, landowners, and community stakeholders.
- Oversee project activities under co-development agreements.
- Assist renewable energy teams in integrating battery and other storage technologies into both new and existing projects.
- Contribute to the creation of business models and operational strategies for energy storage solutions.
- Conduct high-level site evaluations and help with due diligence processes.
- Engage in portfolio acquisition initiatives for renewable and storage assets.
- Keep abreast of regulatory frameworks, market changes, and policy updates impacting battery storage projects in Germany.
- Analyze energy storage revenue streams and market prospects, including wholesale and ancillary service markets.
- Support financial modeling efforts through detailed market and revenue analysis.
- Facilitate collaboration between local teams, technical consultants, and engineering stakeholders.
- Ensure timely project progress in line with permitting, commercial, and scheduling targets.
Candidate Profile
- Fluency in both German and English is mandatory.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Energy Management, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience in renewable energy project development.
- Demonstrated experience managing or supporting BESS projects in Germany.
- In-depth knowledge of permitting, grid connection procedures, and renewable project development.
- Familiarity with the German electricity market, energy regulations, and battery storage mechanisms.
- Excellent stakeholder management and networking abilities.
- Track record of managing multiple projects and cross-functional teams efficiently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and GIS tools (such as Google Earth, QGIS).
- Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle complex projects and deliver results within deadlines.
Preferred Experience
- Background in utility-scale BESS development.
- Experience with renewable energy projects in the German market.
- Engagement with grid connection and transmission system stakeholders.
- Expertise in co-development and joint venture project arrangements.
- Energy market assessment and revenue modeling capabilities.
- Integration projects involving Solar PV and energy storage.
- Familiarity with land acquisition, permitting, and environmental assessments.
- Experience in project portfolio acquisition and technical due diligence.
