Role overview
This full-time, on-site position in Hesse, Germany is for an Energy Storage Project Development Manager focused on utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The role sits within renewable energy, energy storage, and power infrastructure, and supports the delivery of large battery storage developments across Germany.
You will guide projects from the earliest origination stages through to Ready-to-Build (RTB), working across permitting, grid connection, commercial planning, and stakeholder coordination. The position involves close collaboration with internal technical teams, external development partners, grid operators, local authorities, landowners, and community stakeholders.

What you will do
- Steer utility-scale BESS developments from initial opportunity identification through to RTB readiness.
- Work with external development partners and co-development entities across the full project lifecycle.
- Coordinate project progress with grid operators, local authorities, landowners, and community representatives.
- Oversee development work under co-development agreements with local partners.
- Support renewable energy teams in adding battery storage and related storage technologies to new and existing assets.
- Help shape business models and operating approaches for storage projects.
- Carry out early-stage site screening and assist with project due diligence.
- Take part in acquisition opportunities involving renewable energy and storage portfolios.
- Track regulatory updates, policy shifts, and market reforms affecting battery storage in Germany.
- Evaluate revenue opportunities in wholesale electricity and ancillary service markets.
- Support financial modelling by assessing market mechanisms and potential revenue stacks.
- Coordinate activities among local teams, engineering consultants, and technical specialists.
- Keep projects aligned with schedule targets, permitting milestones, and commercial goals.
Required profile
- Professional fluency in both German and English is required.
- A master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Energy Management, or a closely related field is needed.
- At least 5 years of experience in renewable energy project development is required.
- Prior involvement in BESS development projects in Germany is expected.
- Strong knowledge of permitting workflows, grid connection submissions, and renewable energy development is important.
- You should understand German electricity markets, energy regulations, and battery storage market structures.
- Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills are needed.
- Experience handling multiple projects while coordinating cross-functional teams is important.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and PowerPoint, is required.
- Experience with GIS tools such as Google Earth, QGIS, or similar mapping platforms is expected.
- Strong project management, organisation, and problem-solving abilities are necessary.
- You must be able to manage complex assignments and deliver within set timelines.
