Job description
Role overview
Lancashire County Council is recruiting an Employment Officer to join the Virtual School's Employment Support team. This permanent, full-time position is for 37 hours per week and supports care-experienced young people aged 12 to 25 across Lancashire as they move into education, training, or work.
The role suits a highly motivated professional with experience supporting children and young people from vulnerable backgrounds. Previous careers guidance experience would be beneficial. The post involves working flexibly across Lancashire, with a particular focus on the north of the county, and includes time spent in schools, businesses, and home-working environments.
What the role involves
You will work as part of an established team of Employment Officers, helping young people build pathways into education, employment, and training. The role includes delivering careers, education, information and guidance in schools for learners in Years 8 to 11, as well as supporting 16 to 24 year olds into employability with the help of local employers and partners.
Day-to-day work will include managing a caseload, building relationships with young people and stakeholders, travelling across Lancashire, and working towards agreed outcomes.
Experience and qualification notes
Applicants should be able to show proven experience of handling a caseload and understanding the needs of children who have a care background. A Careers Level 6 qualification would be an advantage, although training will be provided for candidates who do not already hold it.
Application and recruitment information
Applicants must upload a supporting statement that clearly explains how they meet the criteria in the person specification and job description. Shortlisting may not be possible without this evidence.
Interviews are scheduled for Monday 20 July 2026.
Additional terms
This post is not available for international sponsorship.
The role is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975, as amended in 2013. If appointed, you will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
The council offers a range of employee benefits. The vacancy may be closed before the advertised closing date if enough suitable applications are received.
Pay details
Salary for the role is £28,142 to £32,061 per year. The starting point is SCP 11 at £28,142, with annual progression up the spinal point scale.
