Job description
About the organisation
The Salvation Army Australia is a Christian movement and one of the country’s largest and most respected charities. Its work is centred on creating positive change and supporting people through hardship, crisis and community need.
Employment Plus is seeking an Employment Consultant to join its Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA) program in Maitland, New South Wales. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys helping people, building trust and creating real employment outcomes.
The IEA model differs from traditional employment services by offering a smaller caseload, a stronger focus on quality over quantity, and more personalised, relationship-led support.
You will work with participants across the Hunter region, including Maitland, Cessnock and nearby areas, helping people with disability, injury or health conditions move towards sustainable employment and greater independence.
What you’ll do
- Develop encouraging, professional relationships with IEA participants.
- Support participants to create resumes, complete job applications and improve interview readiness.
- Work with local employers to identify appropriate vacancies and advocate for participants.
- Provide follow-up support after participants begin work.
- Refer participants to training providers, allied health professionals and community services where needed.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Why this role may suit you
The position can move quickly, so staying organised and outcome-focused is important. You will be supported by clear systems and a collaborative team.
This could be a strong fit if you already have experience as an Employment Consultant and want a more supportive, relationship-based program. It may also suit someone from customer service, call centre, face-to-face service, HR, community services, teaching or another people-focused background who is ready to move into meaningful work.
Strong communication, motivation, resilience, organisation and the ability to stay calm under pressure will help you succeed.
A current driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle are required, as the role involves travelling between locations across the region.
Benefits and support
- Permanent full-time employment.
- Option to work a 9-day fortnight or take a monthly RDO while completing full-time hours.
- Attractive pay with not-for-profit salary packaging benefits.
- Training and mentoring to help you succeed in the role.
- Ongoing professional development and long-term career pathways across Employment Plus and the wider Salvation Army network.
- Discounts on fitness memberships, health insurance and retail offers.
- Purchased leave options.
- 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
- Up to 5 days of paid Salvos volunteering leave.
- Access to free counselling and wellbeing initiatives.
