Job description

Role Overview

Triple Zero Victoria is hiring Emergency Communications Officers for its Victorian locations, with the role scheduled to commence in 2026. This position sits within Emergency Communications Services and involves handling both emergency and non-emergency Triple Zero calls from members of the public and other emergency agencies.

About Triple Zero Victoria

Triple Zero Victoria serves as the essential connection between the Victorian community and Police, Fire, Ambulance and VICSES. It operates Victoria’s 24/7 emergency call-taking and dispatch function. Its combined emergency communications model is uncommon in Australia and rare globally. The organisation values the importance of the work it does and the difference it makes for the community.

What the Role Involves

As an Emergency Communications Officer, you will support callers during urgent and often difficult situations. Each day can be varied, and the role requires steady judgement, clear communication and the ability to remain composed under pressure. You will receive full paid training before taking live calls, and your team leaders and colleagues will continue to provide guidance as you transition into the work.

Multiple roster arrangements may be available depending on location, including full-time rotating rosters, full-time fixed rosters and part-time fixed rosters.

Candidate Profile

This opportunity may suit people from a range of life stages, professional backgrounds and cultural communities. The organisation is looking for individuals who can manage competing demands in a fast-moving setting, learn quickly and provide calm, empathetic support when it matters most.

Benefits

Joining Triple Zero Victoria means contributing to a vital public service while working in a supportive team environment. The role comes with paid training, structured progression, strong conditions and a range of workplace benefits.

Application Process

Applications are reviewed as they arrive, and the role remains open while recruitment continues. The selection process generally takes four to eight weeks from application to offer. Candidates will be contacted if they move forward in the process.

To apply, candidates must submit a current resume and a cover letter explaining their interest and relevant experience. Applications must be lodged through the Triple Zero Victoria careers portal, along with the mandatory application form. Email submissions are not accepted. Recruitment agency applications will not be considered. For confidential enquiries, candidates may contact the careers team by email.

Other Relevant Information

Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. Where an applicant has applied for an ongoing role, they can only be considered for a fixed-term appointment that does not go beyond the term of their visa. Proof of Australian working rights is required before employment begins.

Preferred candidates will need to complete a pre-employment medical declaration, and appointment is subject to a National Police Check. Adjustments to the recruitment and selection process are available on request.

Equal Opportunity

Triple Zero Victoria promotes equal opportunity and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds. The organisation actively values diversity across gender, religion, ethnicity, LGBTQIA+ identity, disability and neurodiversity, and strongly encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates to apply.
