Job description

Role overview

Triple Zero Victoria is hiring Emergency Communications Officers for its Burwood East site, with starts planned for 2026. This role sits within Emergency Communications Services and involves answering and managing emergency as well as non-emergency calls from the public and emergency service agencies.

Triple Zero Victoria provides the vital connection between the Victorian community and Police, Fire, Ambulance and VICSES, delivering 24/7 emergency call-taking and dispatch services. The organisation describes this work as meaningful, high-impact and community-focused.

Applications are reviewed as they arrive, and the recruitment process usually takes around four to eight weeks from application to offer. Candidates will be contacted after submission if they are moving forward in the selection process.

What the role involves

Emergency Communications Officers are the first point of contact for triple zero calls. The work is fast-paced, varied and demanding, and requires composure, clear thinking and the ability to guide callers through critical situations. New starters receive fully paid training before handling live calls, with support available from teammates and team leaders throughout.

There are multiple roster patterns available depending on location, including full-time rotating rosters, full-time fixed rosters and part-time fixed rosters.

What kind of person suits this role

This position is suited to people from diverse backgrounds and life stages who are comfortable working in a busy environment and can manage multiple tasks accurately under pressure. Strong computer confidence, sound judgement, persistence, empathy and professional behaviour are important. You should be able to stay calm in stressful moments, adapt your communication style to the caller, and learn quickly while responding well to feedback.

Benefits and support

Triple Zero Victoria offers flexible work practices and support for employee wellbeing and personal circumstances. The role comes with competitive pay and conditions, paid training, strong team support and a range of workplace benefits.

Benefits

  • Fully paid training from day one, with a Certificate III in Public Safety (Emergency Communications Centre Operations) awarded after consolidation
  • Clear pathways for progression, development and upskilling
  • Attractive employment conditions, including 5 weeks of annual leave each year
  • A paid 30-minute break after every 90 minutes worked in a shift
  • Employee assistance support for staff and eligible family members
  • Discounted health insurance, banking products and family gym membership
  • Access to on-site gyms at all locations
  • Memberlink discount card with savings across thousands of retailers and service providers
  • Staff recognition and reward programs
  • Free staff parking at all sites
  • Salary packaging options after an initial service period

Equal opportunity and inclusion

Triple Zero Victoria is committed to equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. The organisation welcomes people of all backgrounds and actively encourages applications from candidates across gender, religion, ethnicity, LGBTQIA+, disability and neurodiversity. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

How to apply

Applicants should submit a resume and cover letter explaining their interest in the role and how their experience matches the position. Applications must be lodged through the Triple Zero Victoria Careers Portal; email applications will not be accepted because a mandatory application form is required. A confidential discussion can be requested via the Careers team email address. Recruitment agency applications will not be accepted.

Other important information

Applicants must be Australian or New Zealand citizens or permanent residents, and proof of Australian working rights is required. If an applicant has applied for an ongoing role, they can only be considered for a fixed-term appointment that does not extend beyond their visa term. Preferred candidates must complete a pre-employment medical declaration, and employment is subject to a National Police Check clearance.
