Job description

Role overview

This is a specialist opportunity for an economist with interest or experience in the aviation sector to contribute to economic oversight within civil aviation. The role sits inside a public-sector regulatory environment and focuses on analysis that supports evidence-based decisions, policy work, and oversight of critical infrastructure.

The position is based in central Dublin 2, with strong access to Luas, train, and bus services.

What the team does

You will work within an Economic Regulation team that supports regulatory activity, infrastructure economics, forecasting, policy evaluation, and engagement with stakeholders. The role offers exposure to complex issues, senior decision-makers, and national as well as international regulatory work.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out economic, quantitative, and policy analysis to inform regulatory decisions.
  • Build, update, and maintain forecasting, financial, and analytical models.
  • Review costs, revenue, operating performance, and capacity data.
  • Draft consultation papers, decision documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Track how regulated organisations perform against targets and frameworks.
  • Work with industry stakeholders and consider differing perspectives.
  • Support policy development and implementation at national and international level.
  • Assist wider organisational projects through research, data analysis, and economic input.
  • Stay current with changes in economic regulation and industry best practice.

Requirements

  • Postgraduate qualification in Economics or a closely related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving ability.
  • Experience carrying out applied economic or policy analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work well with others and collaborate effectively.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel and the wider Microsoft 365 suite.
  • Preferred: experience in economics, regulation, policy, or consultancy.
  • Preferred: strong spreadsheet and financial modelling capability.
  • Preferred: familiarity with statistical or econometric tools such as Stata or similar software.
  • Preferred: knowledge of regulatory economics, applied microeconomics, or industrial organisation.
  • Preferred: strong presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Preferred: background in infrastructure, transport, aviation, finance, accounting, law, or a related area.
