Role Overview
The Duty Manager for Terminal Operations is accountable for supervising terminal activity throughout a designated shift. The role ensures seamless coordination across teams, rapid resolution of operational issues, strong passenger support, and a safe, secure, and efficient terminal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take charge of terminal activity during the assigned shift and keep passenger movement smooth, departures on schedule, and interdepartmental coordination effective.
- Plan staff rosters and task allocations so resources are used efficiently.
- Provide prompt assistance to passengers, handle concerns quickly, and contribute to a positive airport experience.
- Oversee reserved lounge operations and help maintain a consistently high service standard.
- Monitor trolley availability, cleanliness, and upkeep, including shopping and baggage trolleys.
- Support asset tracking and lifecycle checks by identifying defects, damage, and maintenance needs without delay.
- Coordinate the deployment and safe functioning of golf carts and inter-terminal coaches.
- Track service performance, close passenger complaints, and resolve operational gaps related to transport services.
- Lead, guide, and monitor terminal operations staff throughout the shift while ensuring discipline and performance standards are maintained.
- Ensure all team members follow established operating procedures and service standards.
- Handle vendor-facing operational matters linked to golf carts, baggage handling systems, trolleys, and inter-terminal coach services.
- Review vendor performance and correct deviations to keep service quality on track.
- Identify shift-level issues quickly and implement immediate fixes to minimize disruption.
- Work with cross-functional teams to solve complex operational problems.
- Manage emergency situations such as bomb threats, evacuations, medical incidents, and other contingencies in line with approved SOPs.
- Conduct post-incident reviews and support continuous improvement actions.
- Assist in planning and executing special events, including calendar coordination and budgeting support.
- Support VVIP movement planning by helping arrange security and coordinating with the relevant authorities for smooth execution.
- Ensure compliance with safety and security requirements during the shift and respond appropriately to incidents.
- Coordinate with security teams to address concerns and maintain a safe terminal environment.
- Improve operational efficiency by optimizing resources, controlling costs, and driving process enhancements.
- Track key performance indicators and take corrective steps when performance falls short.
- Coordinate on a shift basis with regulatory bodies, airlines, and ground-handling partners.
- Identify training needs and ensure team members attend mandatory classroom training sessions.
Stakeholder Group
Internal: Lead – Terminal Operations, Facilities, Ground Handling Supervisor, Security Supervisor, IT, HR, Finance, Quality Assurance, and Customer Service.
External: Airlines, MoCA, MCGM, BCAS, BOI, Customs, CISF, APHO, ground handling agencies, retail and food outlets, government regulators, Airport Authority of India (AAI), travel agents, car rental services, and security agencies.
Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Aviation Management, or a similar discipline is required.
Applicants should have 5 to 7 years of experience in airport terminal operations, with strong exposure to stakeholder coordination, passenger experience enhancement, and operational efficiency improvement.
