Overview

Dooley’s Trucking is hiring a courier driver for a permanent full-time role in Clarenville, Newfoundland and Labrador. The position is based in a courier-company setting and is carried out in person. The work language is English, and the role typically involves 40 to 45 hours each week.

Role summary

This job focuses on collecting and delivering parcels, messages, and other items, while operating a vehicle safely and maintaining good customer service. The position also involves dispatch communication, delivery tracking, loading and unloading, and following vehicle inspection routines.

Duties

  • Pick up and deliver messages, packages, and other items by hand.
  • Drive cars, vans, and light trucks to transport goods and products for delivery.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to customers.
  • Collect payment or handle invoices for delivered items when required.
  • Share updates and information with central dispatch.
  • Maintain accurate logs of items picked up and delivered.
  • Load and unload goods safely.
  • Organize parcels for delivery routes.
  • Use maps and other route-planning tools to navigate efficiently.
  • Track trip details such as mileage, fuel expenses, and any issues encountered.
  • Carry out pre-trip, en route, and post-trip vehicle inspections and monitor the vehicle’s condition throughout the route.

Requirements and conditions

No degree, certificate, or diploma is required. Experience is considered an asset. The work involves a local transportation route. Applicants must be prepared for a fast-moving environment, tight deadlines, and tasks that require attention to detail. The role may involve handling loads of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).

Licences, checks, and equipment

  • Valid Class 5/5F/G driver’s licence for cars, small trucks, and other 2-axle vehicles.
  • Valid driver’s licence is required.
  • Criminal record check required.
  • Driving record abstract check required.
  • Own steel-toed safety boots, a cellular phone, and gloves are needed.

Work schedule

Hours are listed as 40 to 45 per week. Shift options include morning and daytime work, and overtime may be available.
