Job description

Job Overview

This role entails handling both emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatches for the Department of Public Works (DPW) and associated departments within the City of Indianapolis.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency phone calls as well as radio communications as required.
  • Forward information promptly to the appropriate staff or external agencies.
  • Maintain all required records, whether paper or electronic, in accordance with Central Dispatch protocols.
  • Monitor United Water equipment and report any operational issues as instructed.
  • Ensure that all information handled remains confidential.

Additional Duties

The list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be extended by management to include other tasks deemed necessary.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferably, at least one year of relevant experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to efficiently operate computer systems, radio equipment, and other related devices.
  • Basic map reading skills and familiarity with Indianapolis city geography.

Work Environment

The role is performed in a dispatch center setting, consistent with industry standards for such environments.
