Job description
Job Overview
This role entails handling both emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatches for the Department of Public Works (DPW) and associated departments within the City of Indianapolis.
Primary Responsibilities
- Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency phone calls as well as radio communications as required.
- Forward information promptly to the appropriate staff or external agencies.
- Maintain all required records, whether paper or electronic, in accordance with Central Dispatch protocols.
- Monitor United Water equipment and report any operational issues as instructed.
- Ensure that all information handled remains confidential.
Additional Duties
The list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be extended by management to include other tasks deemed necessary.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Preferably, at least one year of relevant experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to efficiently operate computer systems, radio equipment, and other related devices.
- Basic map reading skills and familiarity with Indianapolis city geography.
Work Environment
The role is performed in a dispatch center setting, consistent with industry standards for such environments.
