About Camunda
Camunda is a leading enterprise platform specializing in agentic orchestration, enabling the seamless coordination of AI agents, personnel, and systems across complex, end-to-end business workflows. The platform offers built-in governance, compliance tracking, and human oversight capabilities, empowering enterprises to confidently transition AI initiatives from pilot phases to large-scale production environments. Trusted by over 700 organizations globally, including 9 of the top 10 US banks, Camunda enhances operational efficiency, accelerates value delivery, and improves customer experiences.
Operating fully remote and globally, Camunda is undergoing transformation into an AI-first company utilizing its own platform to automate and orchestrate intelligent processes that elevate human contributions across teams. Recognized by GP Bullhound's Top 100 Next Unicorn list, certified as a 2025 Great Place to Work, highlighted as a visionary in Gartner's 2025 Magic Quadrant for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies, and ranked 3rd in Flexa's 2026 Most Flexible Companies, Camunda is rapidly expanding and seeking outstanding talent.
Role Overview
The Director, Product Building will lead a newly formed sub-division called Camunda Experience, responsible for the entire experience layer above the orchestration cluster API. This includes the Camunda Hub (facilitating process asset management and collaborative modeling), client libraries and SDKs, the AI-native builder experience and AI skills, frontend web applications for managing human tasks, and integrations with other business applications. This division is the most rapidly evolving product area, showcasing Camunda's commitment to AI-first workflows.
In this role, you will manage approximately 25 team members organized into small pods (~3 builders per pod), with three Pod Leads reporting to you. You will spearhead the introduction and execution of the Builder operating model—a unified role combining product management, design, and engineering responsibilities that leverages AI-first methodologies to quickly discover user needs, define and deliver solutions, and maintain products. Your leadership will shape strategy, organizational design, operational excellence, and AI-first engineering practices to maintain a coherent and high-velocity production line.
Key Responsibilities
- Directly lead the Camunda Experience sub-division including 25 team members and 3 Pod Leads, managing the full product lifecycle and business impact of multiple components such as the Hub, SDKs, AI-native builders, orchestration web apps, and integration tools.
- Develop and implement the Builder operating model establishing governance, rituals, quality standards, and collaboration methods that enable rapid iteration and cohesive product delivery.
- Oversee the delivery of initial Builder-driven products, enhancing the Camunda Hub for process asset sharing and collaborative modeling and launching the AI-native builder experience with clear benefits for users.
- Design the organizational segmentation and interfaces within the domain to enable effective scaling of discovery, solution development, implementation, and support functions.
- Collaborate with Strategy PMs to translate high-level directional goals into actionable domain strategies, investment sequencing, and key thesis development, ensuring feedback loops to company-wide strategy.
- Lead AI-first production engineering initiatives by upholding the repository blueprint, investing in shared agent context and capabilities, managing CI/CD pipelines, and establishing governance norms balancing standards and local flexibility.
- Ensure sustainable maintenance and support practices by clearly defining ownership, balancing new features with product health, and safeguarding long-term reliability as adoption grows.
Required Qualifications
- At least 10 years of leadership experience in product building, including managing managers and owning complex user-facing product outcomes.
- Proven ability to design and implement operating models within a product domain, including pod structure, governance frameworks, and quality metrics.
- Experience leading teams that develop end-to-end AI-first products, where AI is integral to execution rather than simply a productivity aid.
- Strong hands-on expertise with AI-driven product development and delivering AI-powered customer-facing software.
- High standards of design and craftsmanship that are consistently upheld and enhanced across teams.
- Regular direct engagement with customers to inform decision-making grounded in actual user feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to influence strategy development with leadership teams beyond mere execution.
- Comfortable and effective working in a fully remote, global, asynchronous environment with high ownership culture.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with emerging Product Builder, Product Engineer, or Design Engineer models.
- Background in developer tools, enterprise B2B platforms, or building low-code/pro-code products.
- Knowledge of BPMN, process orchestration, or Camunda 8 platforms.
- Experience leading significant operating model or AI-native transformations without sacrificing delivery pace.
