Job summary
The Director of Wholesale Sales will lead and expand the company’s wholesale channel. This role focuses on setting and carrying out a growth strategy for current accounts while also identifying, winning, and scaling new business.
What you’ll do
- Grow the core product lines and help shape launch strategies for new products.
- Lead, coach, and develop an internal sales team of 6 to 8 professionals handling house accounts, trade show execution, and national/key account management.
- Design and strengthen the inside sales approach, including outreach programs, team training, and incentive planning.
- Manage and support independent sales representative groups.
- Deepen relationships with specialty, national, mid-tier, catalog, and buying group customers across the domestic market.
- Oversee 10 to 15 trade shows each year, including attending major events and representing the company in person.
- Gather feedback from key wholesale customers through twice-yearly retailer board meetings and turn that input into action.
- Work directly with customers on custom and white-label production projects.
- Partner with the product development team to create new product lines and concepts.
- Support growth of the European subsidiary by helping define and execute the regional expansion plan.
- Recruit and train independent sales reps or distributors in Europe.
- Coordinate with production and sourcing teams to select the best product mix for the European market.
- Increase international market share by working with existing distributors outside Europe and sourcing new distributor leads.
- Take on additional related responsibilities as needed.
Skills and experience
- Background in wholesale sales within specialty toys or gifts.
- Comfort using CRM and ERP tools to manage leads and customer relationships; NetSuite experience is helpful but not mandatory.
- Ability to build practical reports, interpret KPIs, and present recommendations to senior leadership.
- Strong command of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word at an intermediate level.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including strong presentation skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing market conditions and frequent product launches.
- Experience with merchandising concepts such as end caps, feature displays, POP materials, shelf signage, and planograms.
- Self-directed work style with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines at once.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree is required, ideally in business, sales, or marketing. An advanced degree is preferred. The role calls for at least 8 years of successful sales experience in toys or consumer products, with exposure to a broad mix of account types. International sales experience, either direct or through distribution partners, is preferred but not required.
Compensation and travel
The expected salary range is $130,000 to $150,000, plus bonus potential. This is a remote role and may require up to 50% travel.
