Role Summary
The Director of Training is charged with shaping and executing the training vision across all field-facing staff, ensuring comprehensive skill development, knowledge growth, and capability enhancement. This leader manages training frameworks, curricula, digital assets, and capacity building initiatives that support both onboarding and continuous professional growth, particularly for Account Management functions.
This position also includes strategic oversight of external training vendors and partners to align quality standards and objectives across commercial teams. By collaborating closely with leadership from Commercial, Medical, Compliance, Marketing, HR, and Field functions, the Director translates business strategies into impactful learning experiences to boost team performance and drive commercial success.
Key responsibilities include developing modern learning systems, analyzing capability gaps using data and field insights, and supporting product launches to advance field readiness and leadership development. This role reports from Dyne’s Waltham office and involves up to 30% overnight travel.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate onboarding and ongoing skill training for all cross-functional field teams.
- Ensure training curricula and onboarding meet evolving field needs.
- Oversee creation and maintenance of all training modules relevant to field employees.
- Develop diverse training materials including study guides, self-study resources, assessments, FAQs, and competitive analyses.
- Deliver training sessions across formats such as one-on-one, conference calls, and live classrooms.
- Collect and analyze data from field observations and focus groups to identify gaps and recommend improvements aligned with organizational objectives.
- Manage training on cross-functional business systems like Veeva CRM, Concur, and Patient Services data platforms.
- Collaborate with leadership to design training initiatives enhancing field leadership capabilities.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Support leadership in content development for field meetings, including objectives, materials, and agendas.
- Work with teams to gather feedback and develop targeted workshop training.
- Facilitate management-level "train-the-trainer" sessions with account leadership.
- Assist field teams with coaching, recruitment, and interviews as required.
Systems and Continuous Development
- Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) and coordinate with vendors to provide resources for field training.
- Collaborate with corporate and external compliance partners to ensure employees remain updated on policies affecting their roles.
- Perform additional duties as necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree preferred in science or business; MBA is advantageous. Equivalent relevant education and experience may be considered.
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in pharmaceutical or medical sales and training, including 6 years in training or field leadership roles.
- Preferred experience in neuroscience and rare diseases.
- Prior pharmaceutical field experience with first-line field management and vendor/contract oversight is required.
- Background in product launches and Account Management is highly desirable.
- Proven leadership, teaching, and facilitation abilities.
- Skill in developing effective training content and applying adult learning principles.
- Capability in managing difficult conversations with diplomacy and flexibility.
- Experience launching products in rare disease areas.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written evaluation competencies.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and proactive.
- Experience in project and vendor management.
- Professionalism with strict adherence to policies in a regulated environment, maintaining confidentiality.
- Negotiation skills and ability to influence senior leadership on strategic matters.
- Competent in communicating a clear vision and aligning team efforts with organizational goals.
- Willingness to travel up to 30% overnight.
Compensation
The salary range for this Massachusetts-based position is $188,000 to $230,000 USD annually. Actual pay depends on qualifications including education, expertise, and demonstrated skills.
