Role Overview
The Director of Talent will report directly to the CEO and collaborate with the executive team, acting as a strategic advisor on various aspects including organizational structure, people leadership, culture development, training initiatives, recruitment, retention strategies, and performance management.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise senior leadership as a strategic partner on all people-related matters aligned with growth goals.
- Devise and implement comprehensive people strategies to support AFC’s ongoing expansion.
- Collaborate with leadership to refine organizational structure, clarify roles, enhance accountability, communication, and bolster leadership effectiveness.
- Develop and manage programs for people development such as leadership and manager training, career pathing, succession planning, and employee growth pathways.
- Create tailored training content for various teams including management, operations, sales, logistics, support staff, and emerging leaders.
- Define, uphold, and cultivate AFC’s culture, values, leadership principles, and behavioral expectations.
- Lead culture enhancement projects to promote ownership, urgency, teamwork, accountability, service excellence, loyalty, and continuous improvement.
- Establish systems for managing performance, providing feedback and coaching, recognizing achievements, and supporting employee engagement and retention.
- Identify talent gaps, address performance challenges, and aid leadership in assessing developmental needs and leadership potential.
- Revamp onboarding processes to ensure new employees are fully integrated into AFC’s culture, expectations, systems, and success strategies.
- Direct recruiting efforts for critical leadership, corporate, operational, sales, logistics, driver support, and specialized positions.
- Implement a consistent hiring methodology incorporating scorecards, structured interviews, assessments, and clear decision-making criteria.
- Manage AFC’s employer branding and recruitment marketing to enhance its appeal as an employer of choice.
- Design and execute campaigns, employee storytelling, content strategy, social media engagement, and candidate communications demonstrating AFC as a premier place to develop a career.
- Monitor and analyze talent, culture, training, and people-related key performance indicators including retention rates, turnover, employee engagement, leadership bench strength, training completion, internal promotion rates, performance trends, and satisfaction levels.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree is mandatory.
- Over 10 years of experience in roles like talent leadership, HR management, organizational development, culture building, or learning and development.
- Track record of developing people-related systems within growing organizations.
- Expertise in employee growth, leadership coaching, performance evaluation, succession planning, and retention facilitation.
- History of advising executive leadership on people strategy and organizational design.
- Proven capability in cultivating company culture in fast-evolving business environments.
- Experience designing training programs, leadership development, onboarding systems, and career advancement models.
- Strong proficiency in recruitment, hiring process innovation, employer branding, and talent acquisition strategies.
- Comfortable leveraging data, assessment tools, AI systems, applicant tracking platforms, and analytics for people management decisions.
- Excellent skills in communication, written expression, judgment, organization, emotional intelligence, and diligent follow-through.
Preferred Experience
- Background in transportation, logistics, supply chain, industrial services, private equity-backed firms, or fast-growth founder-led organizations.
- Experience with driver, operations, or sales recruiting, especially high-volume hiring initiatives.
- Proven success creating employer branding and recruitment marketing strategies from inception.
- Developing leadership in operational, sales, logistics, or multi-site business settings.
- Supporting organizational scale through enhancements to structure, accountability, training, culture, and leadership capability.
