About Singapore Fashion Council (SFC)
SFC is a non-commercial trade organization driving growth in the fashion industry with emphasis on Asian craftsmanship, sustainability, and innovation & technology. It empowers brands across the fashion ecosystem by offering accessible resources, meaningful networks, sustainable innovations, and forward-looking insights. Key initiatives include The Bridge Fashion Innovator (TBFI), sustainability-focused programs and trainings, capability development, flagship events such as Be The Change Summit and Singapore Stories, and management of the Design Orchard Retail Showcase (DORS) and The Cocoon Space (TCS) for retail and creative coworking respectively.
About the Role
The Director of Sustainability will lead the national Fashion Sustainability Programme (FSP), positioning Singapore as a leader in circular fashion through strategic vision, partnerships, and execution. The person will be responsible for shaping sustainability strategy; overseeing flagship programmes; building collaborations across government, industry, academia, and NGOs; and driving measurable environmental, social, and economic impacts.
Primary Duties
- Develop and implement SFC's long-term sustainability vision to advance circular economy innovations in fashion.
- Lead a portfolio of national sustainability initiatives ensuring strategic alignment and delivery of measurable industry impact.
- Forge and maintain partnerships with government bodies, brands, manufacturers, academia, investors, NGOs, and international groups.
- Manage fundraising, sponsorships, and grant acquisitions to support programme growth and sustainability.
- Drive industry transformation by creating sustainability frameworks, toolkits, thought leadership, and capability-building efforts.
- Advise on sustainability strategies involving ESG, decarbonisation, responsible sourcing, and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as the public face and recognized leader on sustainability at regional and global forums.
- Implement data-driven performance metrics and impact assessments for continuous improvement.
- Lead, coach, and inspire a high-performing team fostering collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
- Ensure governance, budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management for operational excellence.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental management, business, public policy, engineering, fashion, or related field preferred; postgraduate or professional certifications advantageous.
- At least 12 years of professional experience with a minimum of 5 years in senior leadership roles.
- Proven track record managing complex, multi-stakeholder sustainability projects or transformations.
- Prior exposure to fashion, textiles, consulting, public policy, industry development, or ecosystem-building is highly favored.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, strategic partnership development, program management, and team leadership capabilities.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, facilitation, and executive influencing skills.
