Role Overview
The Director of Supply Chain for the Protein category, encompassing beef, chicken, and pork, leads purchasing strategies and supplier partnerships to ensure steady supply and support business expansion. This role demands strong strategic insight, expertise in commodity markets, leadership skills, and analytical capabilities to navigate a dynamic environment and deliver results.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute strategic plans to secure and negotiate protein product sourcing to guarantee consistent inventory for current operations and anticipated growth.
- Develop and apply commodity cost mitigation tactics by actively monitoring relevant financial and commodity market trends.
- Present detailed market and financial forecasts to executive leadership on weekly, monthly, and quarterly cycles.
- Provide reliable production forecasts to suppliers and distributors across multiple time horizons.
- Manage inventory levels and supply-line logistics, addressing challenges in inbound and outbound transportation.
- Lead, mentor, and guide direct reports, fostering leadership within the team.
- Build and sustain strategic supplier relationships to position Shake Shack as a preferred customer.
- Coordinate access to both domestic and global raw and processed protein materials.
- Conduct site visits to harvest and processing facilities, collaborating with internal teams and suppliers to enhance quality and operational capabilities.
- Support culinary innovation and commercialization projects, including limited-time offerings and partnerships that drive guest engagement.
- Identify potential risks throughout the supply chain, managing supplier performance, inventory, and logistics concerns.
- Negotiate contracts with suppliers while ensuring adherence to company policies and standards.
- Establish and track key performance indicators to monitor and improve supply chain effectiveness.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align supply chain initiatives and oversee organizational changes as needed.
- Stay informed about global trends, emerging technologies, and commodity market developments related to supply chain management.
- Operate strategically to achieve business goals in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Qualifications
- 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in purchasing, sales, or manufacturing focused on proteins, ideally within a national food service brand or protein manufacturing company.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, economics, agricultural economics, agricultural business, meat science, or animal science.
- 4 to 6 years of supervisory experience leading teams.
