Position summary
The Director of Supply Chain Operations will oversee the full flow of supply chain activity from end to end. This includes procurement, production scheduling, inventory control, warehousing, transportation, and distribution. The role is focused on improving efficiency, controlling costs, strengthening service quality, and supporting continuous improvement throughout the supply chain while contributing to business growth and customer satisfaction.
This leader will work closely with manufacturing, procurement, finance, sales, customer service, and executive teams to shape operating plans, improve supply chain outcomes, and help drive company performance.
Core responsibilities
Lead day-to-day supply chain activity so products move smoothly from suppliers to customers.
Create and roll out operating plans that raise service levels, improve productivity, and strengthen cost performance.
Define and track key performance indicators to assess operational effectiveness.
Make sure supply chain work stays aligned with broader business goals.
Manage inventory planning and control to keep stock at the right levels.
Work with forecasting and planning teams to improve demand accuracy.
Monitor inventory turnover, stock availability, and working capital performance.
Introduce inventory optimization measures to reduce excess and obsolete stock.
Oversee transportation, warehousing, and distribution activities.
Ensure products reach customers and distribution centers on time and at the best practical cost.
Develop approaches that improve freight efficiency and warehouse productivity.
Handle relationships with third-party logistics providers, carriers, and distribution partners.
Collaborate with sourcing and procurement teams to support uninterrupted supply of materials and products.
Assist supplier performance management efforts and ongoing improvement programs.
Work with suppliers to improve lead times, quality, and cost efficiency.
Track supply risks and build mitigation plans.
Lead Lean, Six Sigma, and broader process improvement efforts across supply chain functions.
Look for opportunities to automate work, improve digital processes, and streamline workflows.
Standardize operating procedures and best practices across all locations.
Drive productivity gains and cost reduction initiatives.
Partner with manufacturing, sales, finance, customer service, and procurement teams on cross-functional work.
Support Sales & Operations Planning processes to balance supply and demand.
Provide operational analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.
Lead cross-functional initiatives tied to supply chain transformation and business expansion.
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety rules, and relevant industry standards.
Identify operational risks and put contingency plans in place.
Support business continuity and supply chain resilience programs.
Track regulatory requirements that affect logistics, transportation, and inventory management.
Guide, coach, and develop supply chain operations managers and other functional leaders.
Build a performance-driven culture centered on accountability and continuous improvement.
Carry out performance reviews, succession planning, and talent development activities.
Encourage employee engagement, teamwork, and career growth.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
An MBA or other advanced degree is preferred.
Applicants should bring more than 10 years of progressive leadership experience in supply chain, logistics, operations, or manufacturing.
Strong working knowledge of inventory management, logistics, warehousing, procurement, and production planning is needed.
Experience leading large operational teams in manufacturing, distribution, retail, healthcare, consumer goods, or industrial settings is expected.
Familiarity with ERP and supply chain platforms such as SAP, Oracle ERP, or Microsoft Dynamics 365 is important.
The role also calls for strong analytical ability, financial understanding, project management capability, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills are essential.
Eligibility
Experienced professionals with a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline and significant senior-level supply chain leadership background are suitable for this role.
