Role Overview

The Director of Safety is responsible for creating, managing, and enforcing occupational health policies to uphold and advance safety standards within the organization. This leadership role also includes oversight of workers' compensation benefits assessment and approval.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with company leadership to develop and execute safety protocols and procedures.
• Ensure organizational adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations, codes, and laws.
• Maintain OSHA compliance including essential recordkeeping and reporting.
• Halt any operations or tasks that pose risks to employee or equipment safety.
• Identify methods to reduce workplace injuries, accidents, and health concerns.
• Deliver employee safety training and continually evaluate and enhance training materials.
• Examine accident and incident documentation for insight and improvement.
• Perform health and environmental risk inspections and prepare detailed reports.
• Develop inspection policies, enforce routine inspection schedules, and administer emergency and safety training programs.
• Ensure accessible material safety data sheets and maintain hazard exposure records as required.
• Oversee workers' compensation claims from evaluation, medical approval, and cost estimation to disability rating and benefit coordination.
• Manage claims documentation, data reporting, and provide training and information on workers' compensation benefits.
• Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations for team members.
• Fulfill other duties as assigned within the scope of safety management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or a related discipline is necessary; a Master's degree is viewed favorably.
• Preferred: At least ten years of relevant experience.
• Certifications such as EHS, OSHA, CESCO, ISO, and Train the Trainer are advantageous.
• Comprehensive understanding of company safety policies and OSHA standards.
• Strong familiarity with environmental regulations and practices.
• Robust analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proficient with environmental inspection technology, Microsoft Office Suite, ISNetworld, and EHS & Worker’s Compensation software.
• Deep knowledge of workers' compensation laws, processes, and medical terminology.
• Effective leadership and supervisory abilities.

Work Environment

• Mainly office-based but involves frequent visits to fabrication shops and active job sites under diverse conditions.
• Physical demands include frequent sitting, squatting, climbing structures over 65 feet, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
• Requires various vision capabilities including close, distance, peripheral, color vision, and focus adjustment.
• Capable of maintaining a consistent work pace while delivering quality results.
