Director of Quality and Risk Management

Role Overview

The Director of Quality and Risk Management is charged with the comprehensive leadership and continuous enhancement of the hospital's Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Program, Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Regulatory Compliance initiatives. This leadership role ensures adherence to all relevant laws and standards at the federal, state, and local levels while fostering an organizational culture centered on safety, quality, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate all activities related to Quality Management, Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Performance Improvement across the hospital.
• Create, enforce, and assess the hospital-wide QAPI Plan to boost clinical outcomes and risk reduction.
• Set annual quality and safety objectives that align with the hospital’s strategic goals in collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership.
• Manage and mentor Quality Management staff, including performance reviews and professional development.
• Oversee the Risk Management Program, including reviewing incident reports involving all hospital stakeholders.
• Analyze occurrence data trends, perform root cause analyses (RCA) and failure modes and effects analyses (FMEA), and develop corrective action strategies.
• Monitor critical high-risk events and ensure effective follow-up and compliance.
• Support hospital leadership and legal advisors with liability-related matters.
• Administer the patient complaint and grievance process to resolve issues quickly and use feedback for organizational advancement.
• Make reasonable accommodations to support individuals with disabilities in performing these essential duties.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business administration, engineering, risk management, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree and relevant certifications in the field are preferred.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is set between $120,000 and $125,000 per year.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of Aurora San Diego Hospital.
