Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and strategic leader to become the Director of Procurement for a rapidly growing utility infrastructure company headquartered in the North Houston, TX area. This role involves creating and leading a centralized procurement, fleet, and equipment management function from inception. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will be pivotal in transforming decentralized buying practices into a unified, efficient Procure-to-Pay operation, overseeing over $40 million in annual procurement spend.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead the company’s procurement department, developing purchasing policies, approval processes, and purchase order systems across corporate, warehouse, and field sites.
- Manage strategic sourcing and category management across major spend categories such as utility poles, inspection technology (like UAV/drones, LiDAR, GPS), safety equipment, subcontractors, and field materials, aiming to achieve $1 million to $2 million in annual cost savings.
- Design and govern a multi-state fleet program including utility vehicles and equipment, implementing leasing arrangements, maintenance partnerships, fuel management, telematics, and financial models for asset acquisition decisions.
- Lead efforts to integrate and enhance procure-to-pay workflows within enterprise resource planning software, preferably NetSuite, to improve spend visibility and financial oversight.
- Recruit, develop, and manage a procurement team to support rapid organizational growth.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Project Management, and Finance to ensure efficient resource availability and supplier performance, minimizing bureaucratic obstacles.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 10 years experience in procurement, supply chain, or strategic sourcing, including at least 5 years in leadership roles.
- Proven experience establishing or significantly transforming procurement functions in private equity-backed or fast-growing mid-market companies.
- Strong skills in spend analysis, driving large cost reductions, managing competitive bidding processes (RFPs), and negotiating Master Service Agreements.
- Expertise in fleet and equipment management across multi-site operations, including leasing and vendor coordination.
- Competent in enterprise ERP and procure-to-pay platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Coupa, or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Operations, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder residing in or willing to commute to North Houston, TX (including The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe) with a 3–4 days per week onsite requirement and occasional regional travel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in utility infrastructure, construction, telecom, commercial field services, industrial services, or HVAC/engineering.
- Advanced degrees such as an MBA or MS in Supply Chain or Finance, or professional certifications like CPSM, CIPS, CPM, or CSCP.
- Hands-on experience customizing NetSuite procure-to-pay processes.
Unique Aspects of This Role
- Opportunity to build a procurement function from the ground up with full autonomy.
- Direct impact and visibility at the executive level, contributing to corporate valuation growth.
- Significant career growth potential alongside the company’s expansion efforts.
Additional Information
Applicants must be U.S. authorized to work (no visa sponsorship available). Previous applications to this organization within six months will disqualify candidates. The role is primarily onsite in North Houston with light hybrid flexibility (3–4 days per week). The company is a private equity-backed leader in utility infrastructure with $80M+ revenue targeting $160M+ growth.
