Director of Procurement - BESS/Solar

Role Overview

The company is a fast-scaling independent power producer focused on utility-scale renewable energy assets. Supported by private credit and equity backing, it manages a development, construction, and operating pipeline of roughly 3 GW across solar and battery storage projects. The organization emphasizes strong transmission analysis, land evaluation, valuation discipline, and flexible planning to stay responsive to changing markets and technologies.

The Director of Procurement will own and execute procurement across the full lifecycle of utility-scale renewable projects, with coverage spanning solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems. The role blends strategic sourcing, day-to-day purchasing, supplier management, and delivery coordination for key equipment including PV modules, inverters, transformers, breakers, racking, and BESS. It requires close partnership with development, engineering, project management, construction, legal, finance, and logistics teams to keep sourcing aligned with timelines, cost targets, and broader business priorities.

Leadership and Procurement Strategy

• Build, guide, and manage a procurement team covering both strategic sourcing and operational purchasing.
• Create and execute sourcing plans that secure supply early, improve commercial outcomes, and establish preferred vendors ahead of project needs.
• Drive procurement programs that support development and construction milestones.
• Act as a technical and commercial resource on supply chain shifts, technology changes, pricing behavior, and regulatory developments.

Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Management

• Lead sourcing efforts and contract negotiations for major spend categories such as EPC contractors, PV modules, BESS, inverters, trackers, transformers, and breakers.
• Run RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs, assess suppliers, and negotiate pricing, terms, and risk-sharing structures.
• Develop long-term supplier partnerships that strengthen performance, reliability, and total lifecycle value.
• Oversee quality assurance efforts, factory inspections, and independent audit support.

Procurement Operations and Execution

• Manage the complete procurement process from purchase order issuance through contract administration and delivery follow-up.
• Keep procurement activities controlled, documented, and aligned with internal governance and compliance requirements.
• Coordinate transportation and storage procurement so equipment reaches project sites on schedule.
• Work with internal teams to align equipment allocation and delivery timing.

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Work closely with development, engineering, project management, construction, legal, and finance teams to support project execution needs.
• Contribute to technical evaluations, contract approvals, and change order handling.
• Confirm that purchased equipment satisfies performance, reliability, and lender/bankability expectations.

Market Intelligence and Reporting

• Track and share intelligence on market pricing, supplier capacity, tariffs, and supply chain exposure.
• Prepare forward-looking cost views and equipment roadmaps using market and supplier input.
• Report regularly to senior leadership on procurement progress, project status, key risks, and emerging opportunities.
• Monitor contractual commitments, shipment schedules, and vendor performance measures.

Process Improvement and Systems

• Identify efficiency improvements that reduce cost and strengthen procurement performance.
• Develop and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and standard operating practices.
• Implement and administer procurement tools and vendor systems such as ERP, SharePoint, and Firmex.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline is required. The role calls for 7–10+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain leadership, including both strategic sourcing and operational buying. Candidates should have experience procuring technical equipment for industrial or infrastructure projects, ideally in renewable energy or utility environments. Strong contract negotiation ability, commercial judgment, organization, analysis, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate clearly and influence stakeholders across functions.

Preferred Background

Additional value will be placed on experience in EPC, utility-scale solar, and battery storage environments; managing procurement amid volatile supply chains and changing trade or regulatory conditions; strategic category management; and support for capital projects. Familiarity with ERP platforms and advanced Microsoft Office skills are preferred. Experience using data analytics or generative AI to improve procurement insights and workflows is also beneficial.
