Job description

About the company

Elavi is a rapidly growing venture-backed food CPG brand focused on delivering indulgent snacks that fit within everyday eating. Its range includes high-protein brownies and dessert cashew butters, and the products are sold nationwide through more than 2,000 retail and ecommerce channels, including Whole Foods, Costco, Amazon, Thrive Market, and others. The company values speed, accountability, and a love of sweet snacks.

The opportunity

This role is for someone who takes full ownership rather than waiting for direction. The Director of Procurement and Supply Chain will lead the upstream side of operations, covering ingredient sourcing, supplier partnerships, co-manufacturer coordination, and the production planning framework that connects them.

You will partner with a separate team member responsible for finished-goods fulfillment, while your scope covers everything before that point: sourcing the right ingredients at the right cost, securing supply on time, and keeping production moving without interruption.

You will report to the COO and work closely with Finance and Marketing so commercial plans are backed by ingredient availability and production capacity. The role is expected to create scalable systems, not just oversee day-to-day execution.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead ingredient procurement from start to finish, including sourcing, supplier evaluation, negotiation, contracting, and ongoing relationship management.
  • Create and maintain a diversified sourcing approach for key ingredients so the business is not dependent on a single supplier.
  • Negotiate pricing, minimum order quantities, delivery timelines, and payment terms to balance cost efficiency with flexibility as volumes grow.
  • Track commodity and ingredient cost movements and proactively share relevant risks and opportunities with Finance and leadership.
  • Build a supplier performance scorecard and accountability process covering quality, delivery reliability, and cost.
  • Convert demand expectations into ingredient purchase orders and production schedules while aligning across co-manufacturers for capacity.
  • Own co-manufacturer management, including production timing, quality requirements, cost expectations, and ongoing improvement.
  • Identify production risks early and create contingency plans before issues disrupt operations.
  • Manage new product development timelines with co-manufacturers, from ingredient approval through production launch readiness.
  • Maintain the rolling ingredient forecast by turning sales and marketing inputs into practical procurement plans.
  • Track ingredient inventory, reorder thresholds, and safety buffers to avoid stockouts without overbuying raw materials.
  • Run the procurement side of the S&OP process and escalate supply constraints before they affect the business commercially.
  • Maintain accurate ingredient and supplier records in Cin7 to protect traceability and operational data integrity.
  • Work with Finance on COGS, landed cost analysis, and margin improvement efforts.
  • Improve procurement processes and introduce technology that increases leverage without increasing headcount.
  • Build procurement infrastructure that can support 3x to 5x growth across a larger product portfolio.
  • Translate upcoming launches and marketing initiatives into procurement needs early enough to avoid last-minute execution issues.
  • Support budget planning, cash flow forecasting, and working-capital planning related to ingredient purchases.
  • Communicate supply risks clearly and promptly so sales and leadership can make informed commitments.

What makes you a strong fit

You should bring a founder-style ownership mindset, a systems-building approach, and strong cross-functional communication. The ideal candidate thinks ahead, reduces dependency on single points of failure, and treats procurement as a direct driver of margin and enterprise value.

You are expected to have built sourcing, forecasting, or production planning systems from the ground up, use data and technology to replace manual work wherever possible, and design for flexibility through multi-source coverage, lead-time buffers, and scenario planning.

You should also be able to create predictability for Sales, Finance, and Operations, explain supply chain complexity in a way that leadership can act on quickly, and bring solutions when issues arise.

Qualifications

  • 5 to 8 years of experience in procurement and supply chain roles within food or beverage CPG.
  • Practical experience sourcing food ingredients, negotiating supplier agreements, and managing co-manufacturer relationships.
  • Solid understanding of food ingredient supply chains, commodity pricing behavior, and quality compliance expectations.
  • Experience building demand forecasts and production plans in a growing brand environment.
  • Comfort working in Cin7 or a similar inventory and procurement platform.
  • Strong financial understanding of how procurement affects COGS, working capital, and gross margin.
  • Proven ability to build procurement systems in a fast-paced, resource-limited setting.
  • Prior experience with a food CPG brand that scaled significantly during your time there is considered a strong indicator.

Preferred experience

  • Experience sourcing better-for-you or clean-label ingredients.
  • Familiarity with co-manufacturer qualification, onboarding, and quality audit workflows.
  • Experience working with fractional finance or operations support in a lean organizational structure.
  • Exposure to a national retail launch that required rapid ingredient scale-up.

What’s offered

  • Annualized compensation of $115,000 to $130,000.
  • Medical coverage, dental coverage, major holidays off, and unlimited PTO.
  • Equity opportunity in a high-growth startup.
  • Direct access to the founders and close partnership with the leadership team.
  • A fast-moving culture with high standards and a strong drive to win.
