About Reframe Systems
Reframe Systems is focused on advancing Physical AI and robotics to revolutionize housing construction. Our goal is to create high-performance, climate-resilient modular homes using automated microfactories. Operating out of Andover, MA, we're expanding with a new large-scale facility in Billerica, MA to meet growing demand across North America. Our integrated teams span architecture, robotics, engineering, software, factory operations, and field construction to deliver adaptable homes efficiently and sustainably.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Director of Operations to join the executive leadership team and lead the scaling of our manufacturing and field operations. Reporting directly to the CEO, the role is responsible for transitioning from a prototype single-site factory to a multi-factory network focused on volume production. This key role demands a strategic, technology-driven leader to build operational systems, optimize production, and drive workforce expansion across multiple facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the transition and launch of the new 100,000 sq. ft. Billerica production facility from the existing Andover prototype site, including layout, equipment commissioning, and reaching full capacity.
- Manage factory P&L, production throughput, labor productivity, quality assurance, and cost efficiency.
- Develop and institutionalize the organizational playbook, standard operating procedures, and management infrastructure to support scaling from one to multiple factories.
- Oversee plant leadership including the Plant Manager responsible for daily floor operations and production reliability.
- Expand the workforce supervision framework to support scaling from approximately 20 to over 80 production staff across shifts.
- Implement robust operational rhythms such as S&OP processes, tiered daily/weekly huddles, visual management boards, and KPI dashboards.
- Establish a data-driven continuous improvement system to reduce bottlenecks, improve cycle times, and enhance efficiency.
- Create and maintain comprehensive quality assurance, control gates, and safety procedures tailored for a growing hourly workforce.
- Manage supply chain activities including procurement, inventory, vendor relationships, and logistics to ensure resilience during scaling.
- Collaborate with Finance to track real-time margins and cost accounting per work cell and project for full economic transparency.
- Act as a strategic user and advocate for manufacturing software tools including MES and operational data systems.
- Ensure operational feedback loops to engineering and design teams to enhance production integration and innovation.
Qualifications
- Over 10 years of operational leadership experience, including launching or scaling at least one large advanced manufacturing or industrial facility.
- Proven success managing multi-layer plant leadership teams through periods of rapid workforce growth.
- Extensive experience developing operational infrastructure, organizational systems, and workforce scaling plans from foundational stages.
- Strong familiarity with technology-enabled manufacturing environments integrating software, automation, and assembly processes.
- Highly analytical with demonstrated ability to develop and leverage metrics to guide executive decisions.
- Excellent communication and leadership presence, capable of engaging stakeholders from shop floor staff to investors and board members.
Preferred Experience
- Hands-on experience transitioning from prototype to high-volume production facilities.
- Background in industries such as advanced manufacturing, volumetric modular construction, automotive, aerospace, or logistics.
- Practical knowledge of Lean manufacturing, Training Within Industry (TWI), or Six Sigma in a high-growth or startup context.
- Adept at operating in evolving production environments where design and processes are continuously refined.
First Year Milestones
- Initial 30 days focused on building relationships, auditing current operations, identifying key bottlenecks, aligning on critical KPIs, and developing a comprehensive scaling and facility move plan.
- Within the first 90 days, institutionalize core operating systems including management routines, continuous improvement initiatives, and prepare the new facility for launch with structured go/no-go criteria.
- During the first year, successfully ramp Billerica facility to stable production of 40-50+ homes annually, scale labor force with strong leadership, finalize the operational playbook for multi-site replication, improve cost efficiencies, and establish precise supply chain and cost tracking systems.
