Position Overview
The Salvation Army Southern Nevada is seeking a Director of Operations to lead local business and program operations in Las Vegas, Nevada. This exempt, full-time role supports mission-driven services across multiple departments and sites, with responsibility for operational leadership, compliance, funding support, team development, and board partnership.

Qualifications
- An MBA is strongly preferred.
- A master’s degree in nonprofit management or another closely related field may be considered if it aligns well with the responsibilities of the role.
- Ten years of experience in nonprofit leadership is strongly preferred, along with at least five years of steadily increasing responsibility in nonprofit, human services, or public-sector operations, including oversight of multi-site or multi-program environments.
- Experience leading HR, finance, facilities, and complex social service programs such as housing, homelessness, veterans, or vocational services is expected, along with demonstrated success in identifying, tracking, and maintaining funding that supports ongoing initiatives.
- Ability to operate effectively within a national, multi-level structure and coordinate with regional or corporate offices on policy, compliance, and approvals.
- Strong capability in budgeting, financial management, data-informed decision-making, risk assessment, and leading organizational change, with experience building collaborative teams in demanding, fast-moving environments.
- Proven experience working with an advisory board or similar governance group, including preparing reports, presenting information, and supporting committees.
- Commitment to The Salvation Army’s mission, Christian values, and conduct expectations, with the ability to represent those values both internally and externally.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, email, and internet-based applications.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and on-call shifts when needed.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Valid Nevada driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to complete the TSA fleet safety e-learning module successfully.
Responsibilities
- Lead local operations in a way that keeps the organization’s mission and values at the center of service delivery, planning, and business decisions.
- Work with the County Coordinator to build and execute annual and multi-year plans that align mission priorities, strategic goals, and operational capacity.
- Support the local Advisory Board by sharing accurate and timely operational information, preparing reports and dashboards, and participating in board and committee meetings.
- Represent the organization in the community with funders, partners, and collaborative groups as a senior operations leader.
- Provide day-to-day oversight of operations so that services remain high quality, mission-centered, and aligned with territorial, national, contractual, and strategic requirements.
- Monitor developments in social services, housing, behavioral health, and related areas, and recommend operational improvements that strengthen quality and fiscal responsibility.
- Create and refine operational tools, structures, and reporting systems that improve efficiency, support data-driven decisions, and strengthen compliance.
- Maintain clear communication with DHQ staff and act as the main translator and implementer of policies and approvals between DHQ and local operations.
- Help plan, launch, and expand programs and funding streams that support the ministry in Southern Nevada, using sound judgment on significant matters.
- Develop new program models by assessing community and client needs, structuring program components, and securing funding to launch and sustain them in line with organizational and funder expectations.
- Partner with Business Administration, officers, and the grant writer to identify, pursue, and manage grants and other revenue opportunities for existing and new programs.
- Oversee the Business Department, including HR, finance, grants, receptionist, and administrative support functions.
- Work with the Business Administrator to strengthen recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and professional development practices while maintaining legal compliance.
- Ensure budgeting, financial reporting, grant budget tracking, and audit preparation are aligned with organizational, governmental, and Salvation Army standards and timelines.
- Hold the Business Administrator accountable for property and facility management across the main campus and related program sites, including maintenance planning, capital needs, safety, code compliance, and long-term facility strategy.
- Ensure staff development systems are in place, including training, education, and leadership development pathways.
- Provide executive oversight to social services operations covering veterans’ services, homeless services, family services, vocational services, and campus/program operations.
- Make sure all programs meet contractual, regulatory, and accreditation requirements across SSVF, community integration, grant per diem shelters, rapid rehousing, transitional housing, anti-trafficking initiatives, and other funded programs.
- Support growth, quality improvement, and data-informed decision-making across shelters, outreach teams, rental assistance, food pantries and warehouses, vocational programs, and satellite offices.
- Oversee veterans’ programs through the Social Services Director, including SSVF, community integration, and three-month grant-per-diem shelter programs.
- Ensure smooth operations for homeless services, including shelters, nearby outreach, night supervision, case management, and campus monitoring.
- Oversee family services functions such as rental and utility assistance, rapid rehousing, case management, pantry and warehouse operations, food services, satellite locations, and workforce-development efforts.
- Build and mentor a strong leadership team across business and social services, encouraging collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Promote a workplace culture grounded in respect, equity, trauma-informed practice, and ethical behavior.
- Support staff retention and well-being through communication, feedback, recognition, and attention to workload and support needs.
- Perform additional duties related to the Director of Operations role as assigned.
Physical Requirements
Applicants must be able to complete the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. The role involves frequent walking, standing, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching with the hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 20 pounds regularly, up to 40 pounds frequently, and up to 60 pounds occasionally. Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus. The position also requires the ability to use a telephone and desktop or laptop computer, access and produce information electronically, and understand written material.
