Role Overview

The Director of Operations plays a pivotal leadership role, focusing on enhancing Partner satisfaction and championing operational excellence. This position oversees multiple Site Operations Managers within a designated region, managing all warehouse activities including order processing, sales targets, gross margin growth, and overall operational coordination. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this role demands frequent travel among sites and a commitment to industry leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive operational efficiency by utilizing predefined metrics and continuously improving performance to align with both company and partner objectives.
  • Maintain strong partner relationships through frequent communications, including regular site visits and quarterly business reviews with executive and regional leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety policies and promote a secure work environment across all locations.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to manage staffing requirements, encompassing hiring, performance evaluations, promotions, transfers, discipline, and problem resolution in line with company policies.
  • Provide critical regional updates regarding competitor activities and partner relations to relevant company teams.
  • Plan and oversee activities within the region to meet budgeted sales, pricing, and gross margin goals.
  • Generate quotes for partners and analyze routing options for potential new business opportunities.
  • Engage with national and regional warehouses, 3PLs, grocery and non-grocery warehouses, trucking and transportation firms, and other sales partners to increase business channel penetration and maintain partnerships.
  • Manage escalated partner service issues and complaints effectively.
  • Supervise regional employees to ensure adherence to professional and quality standards established by the company.
  • Oversee implementation of best practices and controls at multiple warehouse sites to uphold workplace safety, working closely with safety and HR departments.
  • Coordinate the allocation of tasks, review work products, and evaluate employee performance within the assigned region.
  • Ensure full compliance with all safety programs and policies at site level.
  • Execute additional duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business Administration, Logistics, or a related discipline; Master’s degree is advantageous.
  • 5–10 years of operations management experience, particularly in retail or distribution environments managing multiple sites.
  • Preferred background includes 3PL, grocery, or retail sectors.
  • Proven experience starting up and managing new locations is essential.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively between sites weekly (50% to 75%).
  • Demonstrated prior responsibility for Profit & Loss or cost center management.

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Capability to stand for prolonged durations.
  • Safe operation of material handling equipment when necessary.
  • Comfortable working in warehouse settings with concrete floors and variable temperatures.
  • Travel flexibility via car or airplane, sometimes for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift weights ranging from 30 to 45 pounds.
