Role Summary

The Director of Operations & Logistics is a senior leadership position based in Orlando, responsible for directing all aspects of installations, inventory management, and support operations of Fortress's Access Control Systems across North America. This role encompasses end-to-end logistics management including forecasting inventory needs, warehouse oversight, and supplier coordination. The position also involves leading a distributed hardware team, coordinating with international teams, and acting as the on-site operational head of the Orlando office in the absence of the Vice President, Support and Operations. The director must maintain a professional and authoritative presence in client relations, vendor interactions, and executive communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure inventory accuracy via regular cycle counting, audits, and reconciliation.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive system for inventory organization.
  • Collaborate with teams to optimize hardware designs and promote best practices.
  • Address issues related to slow-moving, excess, or obsolete stock.
  • Monitor and manage KPIs such as turnover, fill rate, and stockouts.
  • Manage carrier, freight forwarder, and 3PL provider relationships.
  • Negotiate contracts to optimize freight costs and service quality.
  • Supervise inbound and outbound shipping operations, ensuring timely deliveries.
  • Optimize warehouse layout, routing, and distribution systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable import/export regulations and customs.
  • Coordinate with procurement on supplier lead times and purchase scheduling.
  • Align inventory with sales and marketing demand forecasts.
  • Work closely with finance on inventory valuation, budgeting, and cost analysis.
  • Support Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes.
  • Manage and improve Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP inventory modules.
  • Introduce automation and technology solutions for enhanced efficiency and visibility.
  • Provide leadership and day-to-day operational decisions in the Orlando office during Vice President’s absence.
  • Lead multi-project logistics coordination across installation, warehousing, and support teams.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline hardware workflows and mitigate operational risks.
  • Serve as trusted liaison for internal and external stakeholders, maintaining professional and proactive communication regarding project status and escalations.
  • Prepare and present detailed operational reports to management and clients.
  • Lead and mentor hardware and warehouse personnel, fostering a high-performance team environment.
  • Indirectly oversee broader Orlando office functions as acting site leader when required.
  • Manage project scopes, schedules, and deliverables comprehensively.
  • Travel domestically approximately 15–20% of the time for strategic site visits and client escalations.
  • Be available for occasional evening or weekend work as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as business needs evolve.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience managing inventory, logistics, or supply chain operations.
  • At least 3 years in a leadership or management capacity.
  • Proven success in inventory forecasting, vendor relations, and warehouse operations at scale.
  • Knowledgeable in hardware installation standards and equipment such as scanners, suite readers, and turnstiles.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proven ability to maintain a professional image in client and executive interactions.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects and serve as site leader during senior leadership absences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or advanced degree in Supply Chain/Logistics.
  • Certifications such as APICS/CPIM, CSCP, or Six Sigma.
  • Experience in retail, e-commerce, or manufacturing industries.
  • Experience managing operations across multiple sites or warehouses.
