About the Opportunity
We are managing a confidential recruitment for a well-established mid-market company in the energy industry, searching for a highly experienced and strategically adept Director of Operations. This pivotal leadership position requires an expert capable of managing complex, fast-paced environments and turning strategic initiatives into organized and scalable operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and refine all operational activities across various business units to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability.
- Act as a critical link between executive strategies and operational execution.
- Develop and implement company-wide policies, procedures, and standards for operations.
- Provide frequent performance reports on operations to the CEO and executive leadership.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and introduce systems, technologies, and workflows to boost productivity.
- Drive process improvement projects based on data-driven methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
- Create scalable infrastructure to support the company's growth in revenue and staff size.
- Manage adoption of technology platforms supporting operational excellence, including ERP, project management tools, SCADA, or other energy-specific systems.
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Sales, HR, and project teams to align operational priorities with business objectives.
- Ensure projects meet deadlines, budgets, and scope requirements through cross-functional coordination.
- Serve as an escalation point for operational challenges requiring executive attention.
- Oversee key vendor partnerships, contractor networks, and supply chain operations related to the energy sector.
- Handle negotiation and supervision of service contracts to ensure cost efficiency and quality.
- Monitor supplier performance and prepare contingency plans to mitigate risks.
- Build, guide, and nurture a remotely distributed operations team promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
- Define clear key performance indicators and expectations for operational personnel and leaders.
- Ensure compliance with energy sector regulations, safety protocols, and environmental standards.
- Identify operational risks, formulate mitigation strategies, and establish business continuity plans.
- Work jointly with Legal and Compliance departments on regulatory reporting and risk assessments.
Qualifications
- Minimum 20 years of ascending operational experience, including at least 10 years in director-level or senior leadership roles.
- Extensive background in the energy industry, including utilities, renewables, oil & gas, or closely related fields.
- Proven success in improving operational efficiencies and scaling business functions.
- Strong project management capabilities managing complex and multi-disciplinary projects.
- Advanced analytical skills for translating data into strategic operational decisions.
- Experience leading fully remote or distributed teams effectively.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
Preferred Criteria
- Experience in mid-market or private equity-backed energy companies undergoing expansion or transformation phases.
- Knowledge of energy transition sectors such as renewables, energy storage, and distributed resources.
- Certifications like PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or equivalent operational excellence credentials.
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Engineering, Business, or related disciplines; MBA is an advantage.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual base salary ranging from $155,000 to $185,000 USD, aligned with experience.
