Director of Operational Excellence

Overview

This role of Director of Operational Excellence is based remotely, requiring residence within the Greater New York City area and entails up to 30% travel throughout the Northeast. The position offers a competitive base salary complemented by bonuses and long-term incentive opportunities. The successful candidate will spearhead enterprise-level performance enhancement projects across a regional portfolio of firms, aiming to boost EBITDA, expand margins, enhance cash flow, and increase overall operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive transformation and operational excellence initiatives targeting profitability, working capital, cash conversion, and margin improvements.
• Analyze business performance to detect foundational issues and deploy lasting solutions that significantly improve financial outcomes.
• Collaborate closely with senior leaders, partner executives, and COOs to ensure accountability, execute strategies effectively, and increase enterprise value.
• Lead change efforts including operating model redesign, finance process transformation, workforce efficiency, technology adoption, and performance management enhancements.
• Utilize strong analytical and profit & loss management skills to guide strategic and operational decision-making.

Candidate Profile

• Over eight years' experience in management consulting, operational/business transformation, performance enhancement, or senior operations leadership.
• Proven history of delivering measurable improvements in EBITDA, margin, productivity, or working capital.
• Deep expertise in P&L management and the operational dynamics within service-based businesses.
• Success driving initiatives from initial diagnosis through strategy formulation to implementation and sustaining positive results.
• Ability to influence top executives and stakeholders effectively without formal reporting lines.

Preferred Background

• Experience with firms such as Alvarez & Marsal, AlixPartners, FTI Consulting, Deloitte, EY, PwC, KPMG, MBB, or equivalent consultancies.
• Background in private equity operational groups, portfolio operations, or value creation teams.
• Work experience in professional services sectors including accounting, legal, consulting, or advisory firms.
• Roles involving operational excellence, business transformation, practice management, or portfolio operations leadership.
